When using the Darkfield Condenser, the light entering from the peripheral region of the condenser becomes refracted and reflected so the light is angled onto the specimen from the sides, and the sample being viewed is actually in front of a dark background. This is specifically useful in the study of cellular components such as mitochondria, plastids, cell nucleus, etc.
