Holga 120N Medium Format Film Camera (Black)
Key Features
  • Classic Toy Camera
  • 60mm f/8 Plastic Lens
  • Zone Focusing System
  • Shutter Speeds: 1/100 sec. and Bulb
One of the most iconic toy cameras available, the Holga 120N is characterized by the unique image quality it is able to produce, along with its modest design and minimal controls. Featured here with a black finish, the Holga is best known for its standard-length 60mm f/8 plastic lens that produces a soft, dream-like aesthetic, which is further accentuated by the inherent vignetting and light leaks caused by the plastic body and simple construction. A choice between f/8 or f/11, or "cloudy" and "sunny", aperture settings is available, along with 1/100 sec. or bulb shutter speed settings and a zone focus system for focusing as close as 3' away. A tripod mount is incorporated into the base of the camera for stable long exposure shooting and a top hot shoe accepts optional electronic flashes. A camera designed to bring the fun back to photography, the Holga is a classic toy camera capable of making some remarkable, yet inherently lo-fi photographs.

What film would be best for indoor pics using 2 softboxes? 3200 b/w? Portra 800?
Asked by: jimmi
Which film would be best for you will depend on your intentions and the desired end result of your image, as well as the available lighting. As you state you will be using studio lighting with softboxes, most any 120 film will work with the Holga 120N Medium Format Film Camera (Black). If you are looking for color negative film with a professional look, natural colors, and minimum/fine film grain, the Kodak Professional Portra 400 Color Negative Film (120 Roll Film, 5-Pack), B&H # KOP400120PP, or the Kodak Professional Gold 200 Color Negative Film (120 Roll Film, 5-Pack), B&H # KOPG2005P, would be great options for your usage needs. For a single roll option, the CineStill Film 400 Dynamic Color Negative Film (120 Roll Film), B&H # CI400D120, would be a good choice. For darkroom black-and-white film with fine grain, the Kodak Professional Tri-X 400 Black and White Negative Film (120 Roll Film, 5-Pack), B&H # KOTX120PP, and the Ilford HP5 Plus Black and White Negative Film (120 Roll Film), B&H # ILHP5P120, are good options. If you specifically want that grainy film look and you will be in low lighting, then the Ilford Delta 3200 Professional Black and White Negative Film (120 Roll Film), B&H # ILD3200120, would work for your usage needs. There are also experimental film options that have specific, non-traditional effects from brands such as dubblefilm, KONO, and REVOLOG.

But is there really a different aperture for the cloudy and sunny setting? for years they have had this switch, but there was no stop-down when you flipped the switch, no matter what the instruction manual said or what the specs claimed. If this version changed that, it would be great to know for sure! I'd order one right now if that was confirmed. Thanks!
Asked by: mark
Yes the lens stops down from f8 (cloudy) to f11 sunny.
