Celestron Oxygen III (OIII) Narrowband 48mm Filter (Fits 2" Eyepieces)
Key Features
  • Blocks Longer Wavelengths
  • Better Highlights Nebulae
The narrowband oxygen III filter yields high transmissivity through blocking unwanted longer wavelengths of light that aren't involved in your attempts to observe, giving higher contrast to your observing and photographic experiences.  By isolating solely the two doubly-ionized oxygen lines(496 & 501nm lines) emitted by planetary and emission nebulae while blocking the rest of the overall spectrum of light, the result is extreme contrast between the black sky background and the faint photons of OIII light needed for detailed views of the Veil, Ring, Dumbbell, Crescent and Orion nebulae amongst other objects.  Each filter has an ultra hard, vacuum-deposited coating carefully designed to block all of the visual spectrum ranging from 400-700nm, eliminating the unnatural colored halos surrounding bright stars common with less sophisticated O III filters.

This is a decent filter. Giving it 5 stars though to balance out the review. In fact, the other person who reviewed this product CLEARLY has no idea of what theyre talking about! Filters are exactly what they mean: they filter out the light that comes in. This filter only lets the light emitted from Oxygen ions from nebulae. Thats why images seem darker. For anyone who doesnt know, filters like these are generally used for astrophotography. tl;dr good product, dont listen to the other review.

I saw a lot of good reviews on this so I thought I would try it. I live in a relatively dark area so for me it was like putting sunglasses on the telescope. All it did was darken the image and did absolutely nothing to enhance nebulas or anything else.

question

thread!!!! 48 mm?
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi,The threads in this eyepiece are 48mm as stated in its description. It is meant to be used with 2in barrel eyepieces. The inside diameter of the barrel measures 1.8897in, or 48mm. Best regards.
