For convenience, ease of use and no-compromise SLR performance, look no further than the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT Digital Camera. Featuring Canon's Digital Trinity - an 8.0 Megapixel CMOS sensor, Canon's own DIGIC II Image Processor and compatibility with over 50 EF Lenses - the Digital Rebel XT has a lightweight and compact body, improved performance across the board and the easiest operation in its class, simplifying complex tasks and ensuring the perfect shot every time. With intuitive simplicity, powerful performance and unprecedented affordability, the Digital Rebel XT is the EOS digital SLR camera for everyone.

8.0 Megapixel CMOS Sensor

The EOS Digital Rebel XT features Canon's 8.0 Megapixel CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensor, which captures images of exceptional clarity and tonal range and offers the most pixels in its class. This APS-C size sensor (22.2 x 14.8mm) has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras, creating an effective angle of view that is 1.6x the normal EF Lens focal length. Featuring an on-chip Noise Reduction Circuit with an expanded ISO range, the Digital Rebel XT's sensor offers professional sophistication in a consumer package.

Digic II Image Processor

The EOS Digital Rebel XT's sensor is driven by the DIGIC II Image Processor, which has been enhanced across the board with improvements in speed and image quality. Information captured by the sensor is processed and assembled into images of exceptional clarity and resolution. Consuming very little energy, DIGIC II works with the sensor to ensure natural colors, accurate white balance and speedy write times, letting you focus on taking pictures.

Smallest and Lightest EOS Digital SLR

Much smaller than its predecessor, the Digital Rebel XT measures 4.98" across, 3.71" tall and only 2.63" deep, so it fits perfectly in your hand. Plus the Digital Rebel XT weights less than two pounds!

Fast Shooting and Startup Time

The EOS Digital Rebel XT was designed from the ground up to be faster and more intuitive than the Digital Rebel. From the ultra-fast 0.2 sec. startup time, shutter release lag of 100 msec. and viewfinder blackout time of 175 msec., the Digital Rebel XT will never keep you waiting. A new high speed shutter shoots at speeds of up to 1/4000 sec. for up to 14 shots and synchronizes with your flash at 1/200 sec.

High-speed, Wide-area 7-point AF with superimposed focusing points

The EOS Digital Rebel XT has a high-precision 7-point AF system for speedy and accurate focusing in any situation. You can easily choose your own point of focus or direct the camera to choose it automatically. You can even use predictive AF to ensure that moving subjects stay focused while you compose your shot. With a built-in dioptric adjustment mechanism and a new precision matte screen, achieving sharp focus is fast and easy with the Digital Rebel XT, no matter where or when you're taking pictures.

User-Selectable Metering Patterns

With the Digital Rebel XT, you have a choice of whether to use 35-zone AF point evaluative metering, partial metering at the center of the image or centerweighted averaged metering, similar to a meter in a traditional 35mm camera.

Three AF Modes

Where the original Digital Rebel chose your AF mode for you, the Digital Rebel XT offers a choice of one-shot, AI Servo or AI focus, letting you make the call yourself.

Flash Exposure Compensation

Canon's spectacular E-TTL II flash system can be customized with flash exposure compensation and eight customized flash metering modes. These improvements have no effect on automatic functions, but these advanced features are at your fingertips the instant you want them.

Direct Print Support with PictBridge Compatible Printers

Printing your photographs could not be easier with the Digital Rebel XT. Simply connect your EOS Digital Rebel XT to any PictBridge-compatible printer, select your image and print settings, press the Direct Print button and your photograph will start printing. Exif Print 2.2 includes shot information with each image to optimize the printing of each of your photographs.

USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Interface for Quick Downloads

Connect your camera to your computer with a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection and your images will upload at speeds up to ten times faster than with the original EOS Digital Rebel.

Compatible with more than 50 EF and EF-S Lenses

The EOS Digital Rebel XT is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup, ranging from ultra-wide-angle to super-telephoto lenses and including Canon's new EF-S series Lenses, manufactured specifically for the Digital Rebel series and the EOS 20D. The EF lineup employs advanced optical know-how to deliver unprecedented performance in all facets of the photographic process. Rebel XT users will find the all-new EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens a perfect match for their new camera. It offers a 35mm equivalent of a 27-136mm zoom range and includes Canon's Image Stabilizer (which adds an equivalent of 3 stops) and a full time manual focus mechanism, all in a compact, robust construction.

Flash Photography with Pop-Up Flash and EX-Series Speedlites

The EOS Digital Rebel XT features the acclaimed E-TTL II flash metering system. Whether using its pop-up flash or any of the flashes in the Speedlite line, E-TTL II provides stable flash brightness through numerous exposures. Canon's Speedlite 580 EX is perfectly suited to the Digital Rebel XT. It features a maximum guide number of 58, together with an auto zoom function that compensates for the sensor size, enabling high output flash with more accurate results. It includes an AF assist beam that works in conjunction with the Rebel's focusing system and automatically sends color temperature information to the camera when the flash fires, producing consistently accurate colors.
