The Chief CMA-165 Junction Box Adapter makes home installations quick and easy. The CMA-165 works like a ceiling fan installation and is designed to suspend a projector between ceiling joists. The adapter requires only a 4" hole in the ceiling for you to install your projector, and is designed with a cable management system for a clean installation. The kit includes a junction box mounting brace and a 5-inch round plate that adapts to 1-1/2" NPT extension columns.

Chief CMA Reviews
Wobbly when Extended
The spreader bar is only designed for a ceiling fan, where some minor side-by-side play in the mount is acceptable. When fully extended to accommodate 24” joists, there’s enough flex between the threaded extension insert and the bar body to cause a significant wobble in the projector mount. I tried tightening the mount as much as possible, but it would never be as rock solid as I would expect a projector mount to be. With my subs going at normal power, it was causing terrible image vibrations from the projector as verified by a paper sheet test right next to the lens. As an added issue, trying to adjust the projector position on the mount was extremely challenging, since the mounting column would move just enough to throw it off every time. Had to remove this contraption and install a proper cross bar in between the joists, thus eliminating all vibrations and play. For this kind of money, stay away from this kit.
