Kenko A-EXTUBEDG-C Overview

  • 1Description

The Auto Extension Tube Set DG for Canon EOS Lenses from Kenko contains three tubes of different lengths--12mm, 20mm, and 36mm--which can be used individually or in any combination to obtain the desired magnification. They are compatible with Canon EF and EFS lenses.

Extension tubes are designed to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal minimum focusing distance. They have the effect of magnifying your subject and are useful for macro photography, allowing you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens while maintaining its original optical quality.

The extension tubes have no optics. They are mounted between the camera body and lens to create more distance between the lens and film/sensor plane. By moving the lens farther away from the film or sensor in the camera, the lens is forced to focus much closer than normal. The greater the length of the extension tube, the closer the lens can focus.

These Kenko Auto Extension Tubes retain auto focus capability with Canon AF lenses providing the effective aperture stays at f/5.6 or brighter.

12mm, 20mm, 36mm extension tubes work individually or in combination
Allows close-up macro photography with non-macro lens
Retains auto focus function when effective aperture stays at f/5.6 or brighter (f/8 or brighter on EOS 3, 1V & 1D cameras)

Auto Extension Tube Set DG for Canon EOS Lenses is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 389.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bang for the Buck I was looking for an inexpensive way to do more Macro photography with the some of the existing lenses that I had and the answer to that was the Extension Tubes. After reading the discription on the B & H site about the Kenko set of Auto Extension Tubes I decided to give them a try. I received them quickly and after only about 10 minutes of reading I was ready to put them to use. I have used them single and stacked and Love the results. The focus is fast and the images are sharp. They are Light Weight and store in a small area. I would recommend these to any one that is looking for an inexpensive way to get into the macro world.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most cost effective set of extension tube available. These are half the cost of the 2 cannon tubes. While they may not be the same exact quality they are close enough. These also provide more flexibility with three lengths while the canon only has two tubes that i am aware of. The fit is snug but I expect that to loosen up over time. The release buttons function well but they can be made a bit more robust with a bit better weather sealing on them. All in these fit the bill for my use. They are great for the cost minded hobbiest and will provide a great introduction to macro photography. These allow for auto focus, but I'm not certain that you would end up using auto focus that frequently anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great set of Extension Tubes ! This is the ideal way of converting your lenses to Macros or Super Macros. Put on one of the longer tubes or all 3 combined, use with a telephoto zoom, and you can get tremendously close without being physically close! No need to worry about your shadow on a flower, or scaring away a butterfly. Many, many excellent uses for these extension tubes. These ones have light baffles / dust protection inside - I've seen other types that don't have this added benefit. Most importantly, they accomodate your AF and AE, so no compensations are necessary, it's just like using your regular lense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid value and good performance I've used these tubes for a couple of months now, and I'm very happy with them. They work individually or in any combination with my Canon bodies (XTi and XSi). I have a Tamron 180 macro and a CanonL 24-105. The autofocus is fine, but the depth of field is scary shallow (as with most macro). Of course, once you put these tubes between lens and body, you can't focus to infinity. Since they have no glass, there's no cleaning to do, and no image degradation. Better use a tripod, though. They're small and light, so I sometimes tuck one in my pocket when I go out to shoot with a single camera and lens. Also, the set is just slightly more than a single Canon 25mm tube.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These work well for filling your frame with those macro shots.I first bought the manual extension tubes for $10 to see what they would do. They did give me the closer macro images I wanted. That's what I needed to know. So then I ordered these. They work completely. You will no longer be able to focus out to infinity or anything like that, but you now have an effective higher magnification macro. I'm guessing at least more like 1-3X, or more. I considered getting the MP-E 65mm macro lens which goes from 1-5X, but instead went this way. I'm very happy I did. The difference between the auto extension tubes at $ and that lens at around $1000 makes this a good deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value and preformance This product works great. I'm just getting into photography and these have allowed me to explore the macro side of things without spending too much. They are solid extension tubes and allow me to put a lens on without worrying if the lens will fall off or break the extension tubes. I like that they allow full control of auto focus and aperture. I recommend these to anyone who wants to try out macro photography. They are a little more expensive than other extension tubes but do you really want to put your several hundred dollar lenses and thousand+ dollar camera on something cheap that could break and damage both?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from They work, but not Canon quality They do everything they supposed to, and I guess that is the bottom line. However, they clearly are not Canon quality. These are the first non-Canon item I purchased and the difference is remarkable. The tubes seem a little loose, they go on with a slight rasping sound/feel (not the silky smooth connection I am accustomed to with Canon items. However, given the great cost difference between these and Canon tubes (all of which do exactly the same thing), I couldn't justify the difference. Would I prefer the Canon -- yes. Did I buy the Canon -- no.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just starting to figure this out I was looking to get into some macro photography as Spring is about to start. Didn't want to invest in a $ dollar lens, so I thought I would try these instead. The quality of the build is nice. The fit is secure even with my Sigma 50mm and my Canon 18-55 lens. I am just really starting to understand how to use these Extension tubes. I love the fact that they have the ability to autofocus your lens. The first few pictures were OK, but the more I use the tubes, the better I am with getting the aperture right.Really delivers on an inexpensive solution for a macro lens.
