Cavision 4 x 4" Glass 5-Filter Set

The Cavision 4 x 4" Linear Polarizer Filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 3mm thick, 4 x 4" rectangular filters. It helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not contain an additional quarter wave plane. The addition of a quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, in-camera auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions. This filter is recommended when not using in-camera exposure metering or autofocus.

The 4 x 4" Soft Mist Black 1/4 Filter from Cavision can be applied to purposely reduce sharpness and soften highlights. This can be useful for reducing the appearance of glare on a subject while creating a general soft-focus effect. When applied to digital cinematography or digital photography, the soft-focus effect provides results that emulate the appearance of recording with the grain structure and emulsion of film. Additionally, as highlights within a frame are diffused, ambient illumination is distributed to darker areas within the exposure, helping to balance the tonal range among highlights and shadows.

This filter is constructed from glass, is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 4mm thick rectangular filters, and has a grade of 1/4.

Helping to balance the overall exposure within a high-contrast scene, this Graduated ND Filter from Cavision neutralizes the exposure between a dark foreground and a bright sky. Half of this filter has a two-stop, 0.6 neutral density area and the other half is clear, with a medium-soft-edged transition between the two for a natural appearance when photographing uneven or undulating horizon lines. By reducing the exposure in selective areas, you can balance the overall exposure of the scene in order to gain detail in both bright and dark areas.

This filter is constructed from 4mm-thick optical glass to maintain image clarity and it measures 4 x 4".

The Cavision 4 x 4" Soft-Edge Graduated Blue 0.3 Filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 4mm-thick, 4 x 4" rectangular filters. It can be used to add blue to a hazy or colorless sky. When used instead of a polarizer filter to enhance the sky within an image, the desired effect can be applied only to the sky, without any unwanted polarization or additional contrast to any part of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This filter has up to a 0.3 density and reduces light from entering a lens by up to one stop.

The Cavision 4 x 4" Soft-Edge Graduated Orange 0.3 Filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 4mm-thick, 4 x 4" rectangular filters. This filter can be used to enhance an existing sunset within a scene or to simulate a sunset in order to enhance a hazy or colorless sky. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This filter has up to a 0.3 density and reduces light from entering a lens by up to one stop.
