A unique fine art printing paper, this 25-sheet box of 11 x 14" Fomatone MG Classic 131 VC FB from Foma features a glossy surface finish along with a baryta-coated double-weight fiber base. Designed for portrait photography and retro-styled imaging, this paper has a cream-colored warm base, and its silver chlorobromide emulsion produces notably warm tones that range from brown-green to warm-brown depending on processing. Its variable contrast designation enables working with multigrade contrast filters to suit working with varying negative densities, and it is receptive to toning as well. Additionally, the emulsion is particularly slow, making it especially well-suited to contact printing applications, however it is still suitable for enlarging with extended exposures.

Foma Fomatone MG Classic 131 Glossy Reviews
Love the paper but it’s very inconsistent
I’ve reviewed this paper before and I’ve always thought it really nice. I just opened a new package of 11x14 today while in mid-print. I found the speed to be close. I lightly tone my prints with selenium 1:20. Today I had two prints of the same image, one on my older package and one on the new. After about two minutes the older paper had gained about a half stop of exposure and was very noticeably brown. The new paper was unchanged. After ten minutes the new paper was still unchanged. This makes it difficult to make prints that go together. I know in my past review I had commented on the extreme dry down but I think that some batches are really sensitive to selenium and end up seriously darker than pre-toned. Even if you remove the print before it’s brown, it’s gained a lot of density. The older paper was really over the top and the newer was not enough. Unfortunately you don’t know which way it will go from package to package. It’s difficult to judge your exposure if light toning can alter it so much. That’s difficult to accept at $5 a sheet. But when you get it all right, it’s really nice paper.
Perfect paper to start larger formats
I bought the MG classic as my first try at 11x14. I had mostly used 8x10 glossy Ilford paper so far. I love the warm colors of this foma paper. It's also very convenient for a wide range of exposures.
