    Sachtler DV-12SB reviews

DV 12SB Fluid Head (100mm) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sachtler DV12SB I have owned a Sachtler 25 for many years, but with new smaller cameras I no longer needed the heavy support. I also got tired of lugging around a 45 pound tripod, so I sold the 25 and have bought the DV12. As advertised it will support cameras from 3 to 30 pounds. I have used it with a Betacam and with a Panasonic DVX100A which pretty much runs that weight range. It works fine with both cameras. I do miss the 7x7 subtle adjustments of the 25 with the Betacam, as the DV12 is a 5x5. The Speed Balance is great and does adjust between my two cameras in seconds. I also have a Manfrotto 501 and wanted a better fluid head for use with the light camera. I'll keep that as a backup

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great mid-size option Having been spoiled over the years by one of the larger Video 18 model heads, I was slightly tentative, but hey, it's a Sachtler fluid head. Much to my relief and happiness, this thing is great! Even with only 5 steps of drag control each way, it is butter-smooth, even with low-weight rigs. Sometimes putting a small rig on a large support system causes issues, but this thing reacts perfectly no matter the weight. It works great on my jib and allows me to use anything and everything, from my small DSLR to large broadcast rigs with my network clients and the 31 lb capacity is conservative, I'd say. That being said, anything much more than that and you're looking at a whole different beast anyway. If you don't absolutely NEED the higher payload capacity and/or the 7-step drag control of the larger heads, this is an excellent head!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic This is my 2nd sachtler head. I love it. Very smooth. I use the big Oconners when it comes to much heavier cameras, but for anything from ENG to canon dslrs-i wouldn't want anyhthing else. It's not a light tiny thing, but I don't mind lugging more weight knowing I have a great head that can fly just about any camera I'll throw at it. I also love that they took a hint from bogen and let you screw the extra baseplate screws into the head for safekeeping, they were always disappearing on my older model sachtler head.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid piece of equipment, but pricey. I use this fluid head for a small ENG camera (Canon XF300) attached to Gitzo 5-series (Giant). The camera weight is certainly at the lower range of the load range, but it works perfectly and I wanted to get something more future-proof. Pros: - Solid, heavy construction, sturdy - Wide range of adjustments possible for balancing equipment - The 12-step counterbalance works well for smallish cameras - Even at the 5-6 lbs of the XF300, all adjustments work smoothly and without problem. - Spare parts are available Cons: - A bit pricey (obviously) - I wish the maximal drag (#5) would be a bit stiffer One thing I noticed: The quick release plate does not sit completely flush with the surface of the entire top plate, but maybe 0.5 millimeters lower once snapped in. Therefore, once you mount the camera, there will be some tension on the bottom plate of your camera in some areas around the quick release plate. I assume most ENG cameras have a large enough bottom plate made of whatever sturdy material so that won't be an issue, but make sure that if you want to mount a DSLR or other smallish cameras this won't be an issue. On my Canon XF300, there's a small plastic knob sticking out to provide stability when you put the camera on a level surface like a table or similar. I filed that little knob down a bit because it had to bear tension once the camera was mounted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top-quality medium size head Sachtler makes some of the best camera heads around. This is my third Sachtler head purchase and this will be used with a RED Epic. Everything about the Sachtler brand is quality. Great fluid motion, plenty of adjustability, sturdy, durable, ergonomic. The Sachtler heads are expensive but will probably last you a lifetime if not abused.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fluid Head is Great The head is compact yet holds up great. Smoothe operation and very sturdy. I expect the head to be inservice for many years just like the rest of the Sachtler products.
