Quantum Instruments TAC Turbo AC Adaptor (120-240VAC)
Key Features
  • Multi-Voltage Power Supply
The Quantum TAC Turbo AC supplies photographers with reliable power for all-day studio and location shooting wherever AC power is available--it's multi-voltage, operating on 120-240V.

Mounting is fast and easy; the Turbo AC has a captive screw on top of the unit that screws into the socket on the bottom of a camera, and it accepts tripod threads for mounting to a tripod. An included Quantum clamp allows for mounting to a tripod or light stand leg.

The TAC comes with both HV (high voltage) and LV (low voltage) sockets. You can use the Turbo AC to power your Qflash, shoe or handle mount flash, as well as a digital camera simultaneously, with one power source.

question

What are the green lights and battery levels on the back for if this is an AC unit?
Asked by: Stephane
The Quantum Turbo AC is basically physically the same item as the older (now discontinued) Quantum Turbo Compact Battery, except it has no battery cells built into the unit for portable power usage needs. Instead of being powered by a battery, the power for the Turbo AC comes from the provided switching power supply. As the housing is the same as the older Turbo Compact battery, the unit still retains the original battery level LEDs on the unit. However, as the unit is AC-powered, the LEDs will simply indicate that the unit is powered; it is not actually charging anything, as it is being provided continuous AC power. The LEDs are a part of the main board and will just show that its fully powered.

What recycling time with a speedlite? Is it same or better as a CP-E4?
Asked by: Anonymous
Compared to the Canon CP-E4 compact battery pack, this AC adapter is slightly better. The recycling time for the Quantum Instruments TAC Turbo AC Adaptor with speedlites and other shoe mount flashes is 1.3 seconds with continuous power supply. the Canon CP-E4 recycling time is approximately 1.7 seconds with new AA batteries.

Do I still need batteries in my canon speedlite?

Do I still need batteries in my canon speedlite?
Asked by: Steve
Yes you would still need AA batteries when using this battery along with a Canon Speedlite. The AA batteries would control functions on the flash such as the LCD.

question

How does this compare to the blade?
Asked by: David
It really doesn't. They are two different animals. The Blade is a battery power source that needs to be recharged. The TAC Turbo is your Ac plug. You hook up your lights and plug in the TAC and you are good to go. As long as you have Access to electricity. Both products are great it just depends on you application. For studio or a set up in the corner of an event or lights placed on stands around the room you can't beat the TAC. No worries about battery recharging etc. But if you need to be cordless ex outside walking around or worried about cords go with the blade or their other battery packs
