Less Obtrusive for Close Mic Placement

The Collette swivel adapter allows the capsule to be pointed at the subject, but with the amplifier body and cable vertical, close to the stand. This is less obtrusive in a live concert or video session, and is less likely to be accidentally disturbed because the mic and cable don't protrude. It is very useful for close-miking chamber ensembles and soloists, in lieu of active extensions (which require special stands).
