    Impact EX100A-KI reviews

One Monolight Kit (120 VAC) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 153.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value but need to correct WB I bought two sets of this kit for my product photo table. the price is good, and the quality is much better than what I thought before got the real product. with a camera setup of f16, ISO100, I only need around 1/4 of the full output power. It cycles immediately after a shot. The soft box and stand are also made of a quality better than what I expected. In conclusion, this is a value product. It does not cost your arms and legs to setup a small studio. I am a happy customer. The only problem I found so far is color temperature. It gives a bluish tint if white balance in a camera is set to flash. After correcting WB by using a CBL lens the color of all photos is no longer a problem.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good while it lasted I've had this set for about two years, and it's gotten occasional use -- meaning I used it maybe once a month, and each use saw 200-400 firings. The light stand included is pretty good, the softbox is OK (hard to set up, and I could never get mine to seem *perfectly* put together). The flash itself was pretty great, it gave off great light and was very reliable. Wish it had a way to turn off the slave, but overall I was pretty happy with it. Then I was shooting a friend's maternity photos last weekend, and the flash committed suicide. The bulb didn't blow -- in fact, I still have the original bulb. But something internally popped, very loudly, and the unit visibly put off quite a bit of smoke. And now when I shake it there's stuff rattling around inside, no doubt the shreds of whatever exploded inside. I'll probably dissect it out of curiosity, and who knows, maybe it's fixable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good ptoduct, but... I've had this kit for less than a year and so far some great photos even without a light meter, but one day in the middle of a shoot it just wouldn't fire. The strobe worked fine (fires when I press the test button), just wouldn't fire when connected with the sync cord. I fiddled with the connections and was able to get it to fire in certain positions. Not really sure what the problem is but I'm now buying other sync cords hoping one will work. If I could afford a wireless trigger I'd go with that. Oh, and the softbox is rather pointless (too small). Get a bigger one, use umbrellas or scrims with a diffuser...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value Okay so I gave this a 5 Star because this two light set, with case and 2 soft box's is Soooooo cheap! Yes, the equipment is all plastic and of low quality materials. Yes if you are rough on equipment you will break this soon after you buy it. But for (around) $ you really can't beat it.I started out with this kit, it is great if you are looking to experiment/learn lighting without making a huge investment. It will do a decent job and honestly you CAN get great images with lower quality gear, it's all about how you use the gear. Recomendations: - Purchase some black duck tape and tape the corners of the soft box. They WILL rip.- Purchase a reflector or do what I did and buy a large piece of foam core (white) to bounce light. (you would be surprised at how great this works)Not pro gear. So reviews here giving 1-3 stars saying this is junk... well you aren't paying for high end equipment. This is low quality lighting at a low price. It will work great for a beginer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid product for the price These monolights are actually a bit more solidly manufactured than I thought they would be for the price. A few trial shots demonstrated to me that these units will do exactly as I expected. I haven't had the opportunity to field theses yet, but based on my tests, I think they will perform admirably. The softbox that came with the unit was actually easier to set up than I assumed it would be and produces a well-shaped light pattern. The real test will be time: how will they be doing a year or two from now. Stay tuned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase I wanted to upgrade our very basic flashes/slaves that did not have any adjustments and took several seconds to recharge. This monolight and soft box are great. 1/320 is as fast as I was able to use it but the adjustability is fantastic for still life and portraits. Easy set up and a protective cover for the strobe and modeling light make this set my new favorite piece of equipment. Recharge is almost instant and I was pleasantly surprised by how many incremental adjustments there are for output. Chord to camera is nice and long too. A bargain all around!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The monolight kit is great but... I actually bought the EX100 Ultimate Creative Portrait Kit (120VAC) with Chroma Key kit. The monolights are very good and I would buy them again. The packaged photo key kit is more of a freebie gimmick. It's a light version of an outdated version (version 2). The company is currently selling version 5. And the light version is so crippled that it was useless to me. As for the monolights I'm loving them although photo-trigger on the lights doesn't trigger if I have the master set to it's full low setting. A bit of aluminum foil to reflect the flash helps. They do trigger reliably at all mid to high settings. This is my first set of strobes and they were a breeze to set up and use. I find the 10' stands more usefull than I thought I would.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from what a great first mono strobe set up This was my first mono strobe. I was hesitant to jump in with all the more expensive lights out there, and was not sure what expect with this very affordable started set. Boy am I happy I took the plunge! There is really nothing bad to say about this! I even bought a second after I used this a couple times...and what a difference it made I'm my photos. If your thinking about trying monostrobe flash...this the product for you. Buy it!
