Hoya XD72UV overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 72mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

Digital camera CCD or CMOS sensors are highly susceptible to reflections. This stray light can ruin your photographs with flare and ghosting. Hoya Digital Multi-Coating reduces any internal reflections, which means a clearer image with greater contrast.

A UV filter not only minimizes the bluish cast sometimes found under daylight conditions, but is also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to it as "cheap insurance".

As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times. Aside from that more-than-significant benefit, UV filters render your photos clearer, sharper and more contrasty. For those who enjoy outdoor photography, especially distant vistas, a UV filter can produce a more distinct and acceptable image by removing much of the blue tint normally associated with atmospheric haze.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting. Digital Multi-Coating takes this protection to a higher level.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

Note: Pro 1 Digital filters are ultra thin, but have a front thread

    Hoya XD72UV reviews

72mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 56.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have filter I ordered this filter the same time that I ordered my new Sony a77. It went on the lens as soon as I took it out of the box. Hoya Pro 1 filters are extremely well manufactured and the optical qualities equal and compliment even the most expensive lenses on the market. The Pro 1 filters are some of the thinest you'll find and yet still have a front filter thread if you want to add a ND or polarizer at a later time. I have Hoya uv filters for every lens I own and consider them must have protection. The Pro 1 digital series offer the perfect combination of Multi coated optics, strength and thickness at a resonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this filter is worth the extra money I've gone the cheap route before, buying the inexpensive UV filter for the basic protection, and have learned the hard way, just like buying the cheap sunglasses at the drug store, the cheap filter actually degrades the image. This filter really has improved the quality of my photos, it's been astonishing for me to see the difference. While it may seem a lot to pay, especially because there are many less expensive filters out there, I've been very happy with the photos I've gotten with this filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Clarity I have always used a Uv filter on front of my lenses as an extra layer of protection from scratches, etc. Some that I have used in the past were of lower cost and of much lower quality. With the Hoya filters, I do not feel as though I am sacrificing any clarity or contrast in my images by having it there. After testing it out with this one ... I bought one for all of my lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I Did Purchased a D300 kit with the 18-200mm VR lens. I spent just about as much time trying to figure out if I was going to buy a filter. DO IT You can pull the filter off the lens wash with de-ionized cleaner wipe off and you are back in action. Off on location with a class of 7-8 years olds, yes a sink, soap, water and a small Micro Fiber and you are back in action after the I like your camera sticky finger and all experience. Yes, the shots are sharper too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great UV filter for a reasonable price Using it as lens protection with a Nikon 18-200 DX lens. No vignetting noticed in pictures. Lens cap securely snaps to the filter ring, despite the reduced profile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality, superior craftsmanship I use the filter for two reasons: to protect my Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm lens and to enhance the images of my Nikon D70 camera. The Hoya filter is superior to all the glass filters I've used in the past. The images have a richness and tonal quality unmatched by lesser filters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hoya filters the best! I use Hoya filters almost exclusively because of the quality of the glass and the coatings used to prevent glare or ghosts.Hoya has been the world's largest maker of optical glass for decades. Some of the worlds biggest lens makers including Canon, Nikon and Leica use Hoya glass when they dont make it themselves.Hoya are also the least expensive brand for most applications. Low cost - high quality. What more could you ask?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent filter - on my favorite lens It's on my favorite lens and I've loved the shots I've been taking with it, so nothing to complain about. Does what it's supposed to do and I like that it's low profile.
