The Hoya 77mm Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter has several uses, and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear grey, and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance.

Note: Pro 1 Digital filters are ultra thin, but have a front thread.

Digital Multi-Coated
Digital multi-coated filters greatly reduce the appearance of lens flare and ghosting caused by reflections
Black Almite Frame
Filters feature a black matte aluminum, satin-finish almite frame, which reduces reflections
Black Rimmed Glass
These filters are equipped with black-rimmed glass to reduce the chance of light reflecting off the edge
Low Profile Frame
Ultra-thin filter frames, which help to avoid vignetting on super wide angle lenses, are also designed to hold a lens cap
Knurling Edge Frame
These filters are equipped with a straight knurling edge for non-slip, easy attachment and removal
UV Protected Case
Filter cases are UV protected, which further lengthens the life of filters
Neutral Density Filters have four main uses:
  • To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high-speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
  •  To decrease depth-of-field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps to separate subjects from their background
  • To decrease the effective ISO of high-speed film (above ISO 400), and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
  • To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes, which could cause overexposure
Neutral Density Factors
  • 2x = ND 0.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO 1/2)
  • 4x = ND 0.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
  • 8x = ND 0.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)

77mm Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good filter but watch for defects I thought I would try Hoya's pro line of ND filters to compare with their standard line available at half the price. The first copy I received was defective with the lens scratched along the edges of the ring mount. The good folks at B&H replaced it promptly, and the copy I have now is flawless. The ring is noticebly thinner than the standard series, and finish is a bit finer, but I have not observed any significant differences in image quality between the two to justify the difference in price. Perhaps my opinion is slightly jaded by recieving a bad copy, but if I would buy again I would rather get two standard filters for the price of one Pro 1 series filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright sun - no problem A frequent necessity when using f-/2.8 lenses in bright desert sun and snow conditions. Returns depth of field control to the photographer in bright-light conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it I was looking for a slim ND filter that I can stack to my SR worming polarizer (thin mount) filter and doesn't cause any vignette with the 17-40 and 5D Mark II. This combination was perfect. The vignette is not noticeable and I am a happy customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made product I bought it for my Nikon 16-35mm wide angle lens. It shows no vigette at the 16mm end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Fine Works fine; but, now that I've compared it to my variable ND filter for a smaller lens, I wish I would have gone with a higher stop value; or, saved my $$ and bought a variable 77mm ND filter. A variable filter is quite convenient to use for testing for that just right filter value. No one's fault but my own that I picked this 3 stop filter. Yes, I would recommend this filter to a friend if they know for sure they would only need the one stop value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for Shoot lots of landscape shots, don't always get to pick the light I'm in; love this for clearing up a hazy day - and slowing down motion, particularly moving water shots. Bought as the missing piece for my kit; wish I had done it sooner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good nd filter I like this product very much. I use it to reduce light in order to open aperture wider for shallower depth of field. As I shoot mainly video, my shutter is mostly fixed at 1/50.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Meets expectations I use this filter for landscapes that inlcude beach/ocean scenes and it performs exactly as expected. It seems to be well made and mounts smoothly on my wide angle Nikkor lens.
