Pelican 1500-518-000 overview

  • 1Description

The Pelican 1506TSA Lock is a 3 digit combination lock that is TSA approved. This allows the checked luggage to remain protected, because the TSA baggage screeners have special codes and tools which will unlock it. They relock the bag after inspection. While designed for Pelican cases, this lock obviously will work with many other cases. It has a stainless steel hasp that does not corrode.

1506TSA Lock is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 117.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor quality I bought two of these locks in the hopes to protect my equipment. I know that if someone wants in, they'll get in...but I was hoping for a little better quality. This lock can be broken in two ways without tools.1) If on a pelican Case, then the thief can just pry it open with their bare hands(leverage).2) By pulling on the lock and starting at the bottom, rotate the numbers until you feel which is the easiest to rotate. That is the first number. Repeat for all other numbers from bottom up. I set a number and let my wife at it. It took her 30sec to crack this lock. Poor tubular construction, on par with cheap bike locks. Not worth $.- Buy something else. This lock compares in quality to a zip tie. OK for regular luggage that you are not worried about, but then you could again save you money and use a zip tie for those as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tiny, but Mighty This is a great little lock made by Pelican. I'm currently using it on my Pelican 1510 Case, but you could really use it on anything. It's lightweight, pretty darn solid for it's size, and really easy to configure whenever you choose to reset the code. It has a pretty thin cable, but it does the job and helps secure your gear. I wanted to first check out the quality and functionality, but I should have known with it being a Pelican product. It lives up to the name and I'm plenty satisfied with this product and will get another one in the future for my Pelican case. No brainer, especially for the affordable price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware of Cable Locks on Pelican Cases I can still get a handgun out of the case even with the locks intact. will not prevent theft.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for Pelican 1510 Because this lock has a long cable it can loop through the appropriate holes on the Pelican 1510 (and I assume other Pelican cases). Long, of course, is relative. Also, the cable will keep out the casual thief; but if the thief brings a bolt cutter or has unlimited time, the cable won't keep him/her out. But that's not what this cable is for: it's a deterrent that will keep out the casual thief and probably most premeditated thiefs. If you want a TSA lock for your Pelican, you need to get one with a long cable or similar.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ehhhh... I don't know I'm not really sure what I should have expected. This is not going to stop a determined person from breaking into your stuff. I'll be surprised if it makes it through the conveyor systems at an airport. It should keep a semi honest person from being tempted to take a peek insde that Pelican case but that's about it. Don't buy this thinking it will be a failsafe security lock. But I dont think any of these TSA approved locks are going to do any better. They are all, tiny, cheesy little locks meant for a suitcase full of clothes, not a Pelican case with $15,000 or more worth of equiptment in it.I'm checking I would recommend this to a friend but with a caution, Use it for the plane, take heavier locks for other travel or if leaving your stuff in a hotel room.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just indicate when you have been robbed These locks will not slow a thief down. They are very easily broken. The good news is that you can quickly see if they have been breached and you can immediately check to see what has been stolen and file a complaint before you leave the airport. I have had items out of my checked baggage secured with TSA locks missing on a number of occasions. Bottom line is TSA locks are a bit of a joke and you need to understand they offer little if any protection. Don't pack any valuables in your checked baggage if at all possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy the Pelican TSA locks two of them. Bought them along with my 1510SC Studio Case (Black) by Pelican. They are easy to set to your own combination. Use these locks only when you are traveling by air. Otherwise, get a set of really rugged locks at the hardware store for when you are not traveling by air. The Pelican cases can handle regular size locks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Respectable This is the sort of thing that will keep honest people honest. It won't keep a real thief out of your Pelican case but it will deter a casual or inexperienced wannabe. (I'm sure the cable can be cut with an ordinary pair of side cutters.) I use mine all the time.
