Audio-Technica U851A overview

  • 1Description

The U851A from Audio-Technica is a boundary microphone for surface-mount applications. It operates in a cardioid/half-cardioid polar pattern, though its condenser-element is switchable. Offering a frequency range of 30 Hz to 20 kHz, this microphone works with an AA battery as well as phantom power, and boasts an SPL of 123 dB to 133 dB depending on the method of power used.

Key Features
  • Designed for surface-mount applications such as sound reinforcement, conferencing, television sound, and more
  • Rotating output connector allows XLR cable to exit from the back or the bottom of the microphone, depending on your preference
  • Off-axis rejection for maximum gain before microphone feedback
  • Rejection of RFI (radio frequency interference) through UniGuard technology
  • Small-diameter capsule near boundary for eliminating phase-distortion whilst delivering a high-output signal
  • Steep low-frequency attenuation for increased sonic response without affecting vocal quality
  • Durable casing
  • Non-slip silicone foam pads minimize coupling and other problems due to surface-to-surface microphone vibration
  • Operates on battery or phantom power

    Audio-Technica U851A reviews

U851A Cardioid Condenser Boundary Microphone is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sound but could be easier to conect For it's purpose this mic is great. I use it to record audiance participation by placing several around large rooms while video taping events. It is not likly to be mistaken as a PA mic so pepole leave them alone. The problem I have is that it wasn't mentioned that there was a power box that connects at the end of the very long cable that contains the AA battery for fantom power, the off and low freq roll off switch and the conectors for the mic and recorder. The two plugs for in and out are placed so close to each other that it is not posible to plug in a wireless plugin transmitter and the mic cable at the same time. A 3' M-F XLR cable solves the problem but complicates the instalation. Works pro, looks pro but makes for a messy installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exellent replacement I use one of these for a replacement for a gooseneck podium mic and the other five I purchased to replace Standard table microphone which I've been using for panel discussions in our Digital Auditorium. Great clarity and the users do not touch the during events which eliminates unwanted noise. I would recommend these to anyone looking for auditorium microphones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Boundry Mic I have ever used I was skeptical that this would work when I unwrapped it. I could put it three or four feet away on the table, sitting straight up. It worked flawlessly.
