Synthesizers are not the only instruments that can be turned into virtual instruments. Samplers also benefit from being able to be described within a computer environment. HALion 3.1 is a VST instrument or stand-alone application from Steinberg that is intuitive, with an easy navigation system and drag and drop function for placing samples.
Pristine sound is achieved through 32-bit floating point file support and manipulation is performed using various filter types with a cutoff slope of up to 24dB. The sampler includes all the typical DSP functions that are expected, including pitch modification, modulation and reverse, while the Modulation/Tune-page provides the flexibility to experiment in real-time.
Sample-accurate timing and seamless integration with Cubase and Nuendo makes this virtual instrument the perfect sampler for optimizing the workflow within a VST system. A modified output routing system allows one to create and configure the audio outputs and only those outputs that are needed are routed directly to the host VST mixer. MIDI learn along with support for a many hardware sampler formats are just a few of the features of this virtual sampler.
