The Formatt 77mm Circular Schott-Desag B270 Crown Optical Glass Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast.

The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Due to the sharpness of HD cameras and lenses, certain filters come in handy to assist in flattering your subject. This incredible technological breakthrough gives HD shooters the extra touch of clarity they want.

Formatt's Crown Polarizer enables you to achieve a level of optical performance previously unavailable. The polarizing film is fabricated between two pieces of Formatt's crystal clear white water optical glass. The absolute clarity of the glass combined with advanced polarizing material make crown Polarizing filters particularly effective on demanding scenes.

Formatt, a company with three generations of professional filter-making experience produces every filter to the highest technical standards. The finest materials, together with state of-the-art production technology have resulted in a standard of optical excellence unmatched anywhere else

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems)

Hi Def Filters

Hi Def filters do not experience color shift - Specifically designed for use with High Definition filming
Optically consistent from filter to filter
Formatt filters use the finest materials together with state of the art production techniques; This has resulted in a standard of optical perfection unmatched anywhere else
All Formatt filters are manufactured using Water White Schott optical glass that is precision polished and ground to ensure absolute optical flatness and optimum performance

Absorbing Cell Technology

The secret to Formatt's consistency in filter design lies in its unique "Absorbing Cell Technology" (A.C.T.); This unique process allows color correct dyes to be applied to optically pure, wafer thin absorbing cells and offers a controllability that ensures the smoothest grad lines and consistent color across the whole filter surface.
This process is revolutionary compared with conventional filter dying techniques by eliminating the need to directly coat the glass surface itself; The repeatable performance gained through A.C.T. ensures that at any time you have to swap like filters for like filters mid shoot you can do so with confidence with no discernable differences in color or density.
Each filter is guaranteed flatness to a maximum 2-wave value and comes with an individual reading from a laser interferometer; Every filter is carefully verified with a densitometer and spectrophotometer to ensure consistent and accurate transmission, before leaving the factory - the result is an absolute purity of image that eliminates any unwanted colorcast caused by conventional greenish soda-lime glass.

Circular Polarizers

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointing! Happy to receive this filter for my Nikon 70-200mm F2.8, I quickly opened the nice padded box to examine the quality wrapped and sealed filter with quality control number as well as the inspection agents initials only to find that there was a defect in the glass that would make the filter unusable.I called B&H customer service who quickly issued an RMA and within days a new one arrived. Having better expectations I opened the same nicely wrapped and sealed filter only to find a worse defect on this filter than the original. Again I called B&H customer service and as always they were helpful and willing to issue me a refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Quality and workmanship * Ease of use * Quality of workmanship * Quality of glass * Value for the expenditure From the moment I opened the shipping box I was impressed. The filter came in its own box not a plastic container sandwiched between two (2) pieces of dense foam. The filter has a handle that allows you to know exactly where the density of the coating is located on the lens. I mounted on my 28-70mm and began to shoot. The filter impressed me even more when I looked through the viewfinder (I don't use the LCD/LED finder) and continued with the post production processing of the images. I am not making $1k per image that I sell so, I watch my pennies and I look for the very best equipment at the lowest possible cost and I think the after hours and hours of research on the web looking for a Circular Polarizer and being confused by the HT, MRC, SH-PMC and other jargon I stumbled upon the Formatt brand. Made of Schott optical quality glass for digital cameras. I am probably change my entire line of filters to Formatt. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a high quality filter at a value price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Product The only reason I rated this product with 3 stars is that is is VERY bulky. It is 1.5x the depth of my regular filters and I cannot attach more filters to it. You have to use it as the last filter. Another draw back is that you have to be careful mounting it to your lens. If you tighten too much (basically anything more than a slight touch) it will stick and you will have to use a tool to remove it. The glass is quality. No defects! And is very powerful as a CP. I have dropped it twice and have not had any issues with it's craftsmanship as well!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK, but I returned it First impressions are strong and this thing came loose in a generic sized box banging around inside it. First time mounting it jammed in and was unable remove it without the use of two tools. In fact the only way I could get it to stay on when rotating was by jamming it up, it was either loose or locked, no in-between. So be careful with it locking on to your lenses or rings. Stiff to rotate, that can be a positive, but I found it to be too much compared to others. Aside from all that the glass seems to be good and quality, but I only owned it for about 15 minutes before I boxed it up and had it in the mail back to B&H. I then ordered a B+W Coated Kaesemann for more cash and am pleased I did so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but can't stack with filters. I used this as anyone would use a typical polarizer, good quality, a bit thick so it vignettes at wide open angles. What's not so good is that you are not able to add any more filters or a hood once you screw this guy on there. Overall: good for the price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter at a very low price I bought this filter based on the reviews that I found at this page. Certainly they arent wrong. Its a great filter, much better than those that are over $100.00

Rated 1 out of 5 by from lens cap wont fit, threads lock, no case looks like a nice filter but few problems, first the lens cap wont stay on the filter meaning you need to remove it frequently; which would be fine if the threads didn't lock onto the uv filter so have a filter wrench handy. also, the filter comes in a box, a big box that won't fit in a filter pocket in a camera bag. so, plan to buy a filter wallet. returning it.
