The Formatt 62mm Hi Def Clear Glass Filter is a clear (colorless) filter for color as well as black and white films. Also serves as a permanent lens protector.

Hi Def Filters

Hi Def filters do not experience color shift - Specifically designed for use with High Definition filming
Optically consistant from filter to filter
Formatt filters use the finest materials together with state of the art production techniques; This has resulted in a standard of optical perfection unmatched anywhere else
All Formatt filters are manufactured using Schott-Desag B270 Crown Optical Glass that is precision polished and ground to ensure absolute optical flatness and optimum performance

Absorbing Cell Technology

The secret to Formatt's consistency in filter design lies in its unique "Absorbing Cell Technology" (A.C.T.); This unique process allows color correct dyes to be applied to optically pure, wafer thin absorbing cells and offers a controllability that ensures the smoothest grad lines and consistent color across the whole filter surface.
This process is revolutionary compared with conventional filter dying techniques by eliminating the need to directly coat the glass surface itself; The repeatable performance gained through A.C.T. ensures that at any time you have to swap like filters for like filters mid shoot you can do so with confidence with no discernable differences in color or density.
Each filter is guaranteed flatness to a maximum 2-wave value and comes with an individual reading from a laser interferometer; Every filter is carefully verified with a densitometer and spectrophotometer to ensure consistent and accurate transmission, before leaving the factory - the result is an absolute purity of image that eliminates any unwanted colorcast caused by conventional greenish soda-lime glass.

Ultraviolet Filters

If desired they can be left on the lens at all times for protection
Haze filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
Ultraviolet filters allow you to correct for the UV effect to varying degrees

Formatt Hitech Hi Def UV Clear Filter Reviews

I havent used this filter yet.

As the title States I havent used this filter yet. Im not going to use the HiTech holding system. I typically like a filter to protect my lens however this filter doesnt have threads on the outside of the filter. This means a lens cap will not connect to the filter. I think this is a poor design. As per the HiTech web page these filters can be used without the holder.

Good filter for the money

I have previously used a Zeiss lens protector for our Sony EX-1. Since that one was damaged I purchased the Formatt protector. I have not noticed any difference in image quality yet. And although I have not done any testing, the product seems to be of solid quality.

Clean, clear glass

This glass is great for HD lenses, and doesn't seem to affect the picture at all... I use it primarily to protect my glass from dust/scratches, but its nice to have the UV filter as well.

Precisely as described

The only issue I have with this filter is that it does not allow lens cap, and that means you cannot leave it permanently on lens in storage. So every time I use my 82mm lenses, I have to fit this on lens before use, and take it off after use. That's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars. Other than that, it is a good product. If taking it on/off is not any issue, I'd recommend this one!

A big cut above standard filters. If you have quality lenses seems a shame to put subpar glass in front.

Formatt 86mm UV-Haze HD Filter.

Purchased to be used on the front objective lens of a Meopta S2 82mm spotting scope. The threads on the filter were not deep enough or long enough to engage the threads on the retaining ring of MeOpta's spotting scope's objective lens. So the filter was sent back. On very close inspection of MeOpta's S2 objective lens retaining ring it was found not to be threaded to it's very end, and also setback in rather deeply. So NO filter could be screwed into/onto it. I always use UV-Haze filters on all my spotting scopes. Which seems to be becoming the norm now a days with knowledgeable Birder's to not only cut down on the ever present haze. But, also to protect the front objective lens from dust & debris, and possibly scratching it from improper or carelessly cleaning it. Also to protect the objective lens from impact and possible breakage. It's much-much cheaper to replace a broken or damaged UV-Haze filter then to replace a front objective lens! Meopta was informed of the problem, and need to replace the present retaining ring with one threaded all the way to the end so that a UV-Haze filter can be threaded onto it. They stated that the suggestion would be taken under advisement; and that probably sometime in the near future a newer designed retaining ring might be fitted on S2 spotting scopes? I personally would like to see this as the S2 Meopta spotting scope I tested was an excellent spotting scope that compares very favorably against the big three brands. And at a very-very reasonable price! And this Formatt UV-Haze HD filter appeared to be of very high quality. And should be an excellent choice for any lens needing an 86mm sized UV-Haze filter. And the price was very reasonable for the quality and size of this rather large filter.

Only buy this product if you never plan to use a lens cap. Lens caps will not hold firmly on the outer ring.

love it ,,use it on a sigma 150-500 lens
