On-Stage QK-2B Overview

The On-Stage QK2B Quick Release Adapter allows swift installation and switching of microphones on microphone stands. The adapter has two parts, one that screws to the stand, the other to the microphone clip, the two parts then connect/disconnect instantly upon contact. This push-button, quick-release device mounts onto standard microphone stands with 5/8"-27 threads.

The MacDonalds of Quick Releases

I feel like every studio has a bucket of these forgotten in a corner somewhere. These quick releases are made by dozens of manufacturers and they are all incredibly mediocre at best and borderline dangerous at worst. On one hand, this little guy weighs a very respectable 2.8 oz (80g) and is under 3.5 (9 cm) even when adapted to take a 3/8 mic clip, all better than average for a quick release. On the other, it has approximately 3-4 degrees of rotational slop from the tolerances (so, decent but not perfect), and if the little button does not pop back out when you insert the cap, your mic is NOT secure! I have heard plenty of horror stories of people hastily slapping mics on these, rotating them upside down (e.g. for a vocalist), only to watch in horror as the mic takes a nose dive towards the floor. The build quality overall of the On-Stage variant is among the best of this design, with no visible burrs and decent tolerances, but I still would not recommend this design. It is far, far too easy to put the cap onto the receiver in such a way that the button is stuck down and does not properly secure the mic. You also cannot use these one-handed, you must press the button in before you can put the cap on, and same for the reverse. Overall, this is a very limited and basic design which is fine for use with durable microphones on a stage or the like (SM-57's can take a fall), or for home use to simplify reconfiguring a streaming/WFH setup, but I would not under any circumstances recommend using these with any fragile, valuable, or important microphone.

I have them on all my stands and microphone clips

At last count I have 75-80 of these. I have 50 mic stands. They're invaluable, when you get used to using them you'll wonder how you ever managed without them. No more cross-threaded microphone clips, and putting away/swapping microphones is so much faster. Keeping the correct clips with the microphones is also much easier. I've even installed the posts on my stereo bars, so I can quickly pop a pair of mics on a stand.

How secure is the fit? I assume this works when suspended, such as hanging from a boom arm, but I've certainly been wrong before. Anyone else using it that way?

It should work fine for that purpose.

Could this be used to hold a yeti mic?

Could this be used to hold a yeti mic?
Asked by: Kayla
To Daniel (Staff): My recollection of the Yeti is that it is a fairly light modern condenser mic in a typical studio-style side address form. I do not have one here to handle it, but I can say that we these particular quick disconnect mounts on Shure KSM32’s, Neumann TLM103’s, AKG 414’s, AudioTechnica 4050’s, Sennheiser MK4’s, and other moderate sized side address studio-style condensers without any issues. Although the latter mics on that list are modern and lightweight, the first few are quite heavy. We use them in the orchestra pit for theater.

Can I use it as a replacement for my rode boompole pro thread? The plastic part was broken and I hadn’t notice Until the warranty expired. It must be strong enough to carry an ntg3 and a rode blimp. If this doesn’t fit, do you know where I can get some spare parts?
Asked by: Cristian
This unit is not designed to replace the thread on that boom pole. For a possible replacement part, you could try calling at Rode at (562) 364-7400. If they cannot offer a replacement part, we would recommend looking to purchase a new boompole. Here's a suggestion B&H # KTKE89CC.

Is this an all-metal or plastic build? Thanks.

Both of the two interlocking pieces are made of cast metal. The metal spring loaded quick release pin is also made of solid metal as is the silver 5/8" threaded locking ring collar. These units are very well made and they should last a very long time.

question

Can I use this quick release adapter for the mic stand boom attachment as well? Or will it only work with the mic clip? Thanks!
Asked by: Patrick
Yes you can i m using a couple of them between a keyboard stand and the boom arm. There is about an inch movement left to right at the microphone depending on how far you extend the boom where the two parts of the quick release join.
