    Impact EX-100A reviews

Two Monolight Kit with Bag (120VAC) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 100.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Starter Kit! I found this kit very easy to set up and operate. I am a video expert and new to the area of photography. I was overwhelmed by the lighting options out there so I went with this simple kit. Very glad I did so! The lights are plenty bright enough, I didn't use the full brightness at all. The storage bag is also very nice. I use these lights for portraits of my two daughters. Saves a lot of money rather than going to ...!! Also, there is no time limit and you can take your time to get just the right shot. Also, the sync cord is a good length. You can't go too far with the camera, but the included cord is fine for portrait shots.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Quality If the power cables get bumped or even slightly moved it shuts off and turns on...time and time again. The vertical pivot on head mount doesn't hold on one of the lights, had to jury rig something up to hold it from falling. On one of the soft boxes, the stitching on one of the box skins is so poor that 3 of the 4 flex rods pushed right through--fixed it by using gaffers tape (which so far is holding the box together). When everything is working and ready to go, it functions fine (until the power cables are moved, then shuts off, turns on, beeps twice and I'm ready to go).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the price for beginners I got this set to start out with and I like it a lot actually. It was fairly priced. The only thing is you need to get a remote for them, cause the sync cord is a pain in the rear. Other than that I highly recommend these for starters, they're very easy to assemble and use, and clear to figure out. The only things that arent TOOO great is that the softboxes are pretty small, theyre pretty much only good for portraits, and kids maybe, Kind of hard to do a full body shot. I also suggest picking up a 60 umbrella to go with these.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good bang for the buck! I use these lights for product photography. Two work fine for smaller items, but if you will be shooting large items, I would recommend 4 lights. The flashes are bright and adjustable. At the highest power, they recharge instantly for use again. Each light comes with a sync cable, but you only need to connect one. Make sure your camera has a port for the cable, otherwise you won't be able to use them. The stands are good, but if you're going to be shooting outdoors or in a high-traffic area, I'd suggest getting sandbags to weigh them down. The power cords are long, but could be longer. Overall, everything is average. I wasn't blown away by this setup, but it definitely gets the job done!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid kit w/ all basic accessories I am a photographer doing mostly still life in a studio environment. I was looking for an intro kit and this kit is perfect. The light output is plenty for indoor photography (iso 200, 1/200 sec f 29 near full power with reflector on one unit second unit filling) (never tested outdoor, but might be a little weak for large outdoor subjects especially if using softboxes) A few notes I would have liked to know when I purchased the light kit: There is a proportional setting for the modeling bulb, or a full power mode. The recycle time is really quick, the manual specifies 12 seconds but usually less than 1 second on full power. The protective cap CAN be put on with the Modeling bulb installed, Standard incandescent bulbs will screw in, and will also fit with the protective cap installed. It does comes with 2) 10ft power cables, special modeling bulb and spare fuses. The unit has a slave cell which detects a flash and will trigger the unit. The slave cable is a PC to 1/8 mini-plug (headphone male) cable. The manual specifies it is compatible with Elinchrom style reflectors and head accessories A few comments about the unit after a few photo shoots. Also some people complain of the difficulty assembling the soft boxes, I found it a little difficult the first time, but once you figure out how to do it, it only take around 30-60 seconds to put together. The Air-Cushioned stands are really nice to keep from jolting the flash heads when adjusting the height. The locking attachment ring takes a little getting used to, It appears to difficult to attach attachments, but make sure the locking ring is in the unlock position, then attachments lock very securely. Overall, a solid basic Monolight kit, which includes the basics you need to get started with strobe photography.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid beginner kit Given the incredibly low price, I was very impressed at how solid the parts in the kit feel. The lights are housed in a brushed metal frame, which feels very sturdy to the touch. The controls on the back are excellent, and the recharge beep which many reviewers mention (and which I was nervous about) is really not so bad--it's short and very minor. The kit comes with two stands and a bag, which is very helpful. The bag doesn't have separate compartments for the different pieces, but is well-padded on the outside. My only complaint is that the attachment ring (in which you click in the reflectors or the softboxes) can be a little wobbly, and it is sometimes hard to find a good fit when inserting an accessory. But beyond that, this is a great kit for any beginner user of studio lighting!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great starter, but... Let me just start by saying that this is the cheapest, easiest way to get into learning strobe lighting. I'm very excited to have this kit and have done some nice portraits with it already. BUT after doing a 24 portrait headshot shoot and now spending LOTS of time retouching the images, I've realized the value of larger soft boxes and how they would have made my lighting so much softer on the faces and saved me a ton of retouching time (I'm mostly going in and having to soften skin and shadows on wrinkles to compensate for harshness of small softbox). DO YOURSELF A FAVOR. Learn with these, but get a much larger soft box before you book a big portrait job. I'm really happy with the lights though. And c'mon, these softboxes are no harder to put together than other brands. I'll be buying a 200w/s version of these lights soon. The air-cushion stands are really nice too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great starter kit I am happy with this purchase. It fits my quality needs and budget. I am an amateur photographer and I will be using it for light duty, indoor use. With good care and gentle usage it should last a long time. Even if I upgrade to better equipment later, I can still see using the components of this kit. The kit has produced some wonderful lighting for portraits. The modeling lamps are nice. They really give you a sense of what the lighting in the final photograph will be. I do wish the power controls on the monolights were marked with power levels. I intend to measure light output and make my own markings.
