Foma Fomabrom VC Glossy Reviews

Don’t know what to think

I bought this paper a while back and ended up using something else. I’m beginning a new project and thought I’d see how this paper looks. I did a comparison print with Foma MG from a decent 4x5 negative. I’ve been using the Foma MG and have an issue with what I feel is excessive dry down. Other than that, I believe MG to be really nice paper. I started with the Fomabrom and found it’s two stops faster than the MG. I also found it to be kind of flat. I thought maybe my paper was fogged because it seemed so fast and so gray so I put an unexposed strip in the developer and it was fine. I got what I thought was a decent print and switched to the MG. I really can’t express how shocked I was by the difference. The MG was beautiful. I’d say it was luminous. What was muddy with the Fomabrom transformed into beautiful lights and darks. I find it hard to believe there wasn’t something in what I was doing that worked with the MG but not the Fomabrom. It’s difficult for me to comment on this paper because I can’t believe there’s not a reason for it being muddy but I’ll stick with MG.

Poor Quality Control

I have a love/hate relationship with this paper. It comes from the factory exposed on the corner about 50% of the time. Some packs it is every sheet others not a one.The emulsion is also very soft and peels off. It is very noticeable on the black edges of contact sheets. I have notified Foma. IT IS A PAIN TO RETURN FOR A CREDIT not because of B&H but because it interupts my workflow.
