The ProjectMix I/O from M-Audio is a combination control surface and professional quality FireWire audio interface, capable of 18 simultaneous inputs and 14 simultaneous outputs.
In addition to professional features like word clock I/O, the unit provides a conveniently located front-panel instrument input, 2 front-panel headphone outputs, MIDI I/O and footswitch control.
A single IEEE 1394 cable connects the ProjectMix I/O to a computer's FireWire port.

I/O
Provides just about every kind of I/O one could possibly require for a session. 8 analog input channels all feature 1/4" balanced and XLR microphone inputs with individual microphone/line switches. Phantom power is provided for up to 8 condenser microphones.
Input 1 features a front-panel instrument input making it easy to plug in a guitar or bass.
ADAT Lightpipe I/O adds another 8 channels of input and output. This can be used with a Lightpipe equipped 8 channel microphone preamp. Two channels of S/PDIF brings the total connectivity to 18 inputs and 14 outputs.
Also serves as a 1 x 1 MIDI interface, allowing the computer to connect with MIDI hardware. Monitoring options include two 1/4" headphone outputs with separate volume controls, as well as two stereo output pairs for routing to monitors, processors and mixdown devices.
10-bit Touch-Sensitive Moving Faders
The motorized touch-sensitive, higher resolution faders on each of 8 channel strips and master strip record and play back all changes, making for seamless mix automation. If a fader is touched while in motion, it immediately disengages for manual control and subsequently re-engages automation when released. This provides for both smoother operation and the elimination of motor burnout prevalent in older technologies
Channel Strip
The 8 channel strips can map to as many channels as are contained in a project by simply pressing the bank +/- and channel +/- controls. Each channel strip features buttons for microphone/line selection, record enable, mute, solo and select.
Each strip has an endless rotary encoder knob whose function is assigned by one of 15 dedicated buttons for EQ, aux send and more. Related information is displayed in the LCD window directly above each encoder. The encoders and LCD double to control assigned plug-in parameters as well.
Transport Control
Dedicated transport controls feature illuminated controls for record, play, stop, fast forward and rewind. A jog/shuttle wheel and locate buttons provide for easy project navigation.
Sets of keys for in/out points, zoom, region nudge, looping and more increase session efficiency.
