    Rycote 037303 Reviews

037303 Cold Shoe Extension is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 93.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, with one caveat! I bought this to put a Rode stereo mic and an LED light side by side. However the slot for the 'flash foot' of whatever you're mounting on the bar will only go in one way if its not square (not sideways if that makes some sense) as the slot is a little narrow. This would put my light in front of or behind my mic for example - kinda dumb). My Rode mic's foot is not square so I had to file it down a little. The overhang on the bar slot also required a little filing to allow my VariZoom LED light to mount happily. With all that done and said, it is now working very nicely. As sturdy as you could expect this to be and reasonable for the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very useful It's extremely useful for being able to mount extra items on top of my HDSLR given that it only has one shoe mount, but you will need to make sure that anything you are going to mount on it has a tightening screw to hold it down, as the one I have was a little loose - so items mounted on it can slide around a bit (and potentially slide right off) if not tightened down. I also wish it was made out of some kind of lightweight metal instead of plastic, as it would be much more robust that way. As it is I'm a little hesitant to load it up too much for fear that it won't be able to take the weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Multi Hotshoe Attachment I used this to mount my RODE Videomic Pro and my ZOOM H4N on top of my Canon 5DMKII. Perfectly sized, light, easy to use and very durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it. Solved a problem, inexpensively I was looking for a cheap way to mount a light and wireless receiver to the cameras' shoe mount simultaneously. Other units were way too much money, or stood too tall, or mounted to bottom of the camera, or stuck out too far, etc. I was surprised the bar was non-metal, but that made it even lighter, yet it's very sturdy. I even made it stand a little lower by drilling a hole for the post through the bar and mounting the nut on top. In this mode, I can't slide the bar in relation to the camera, but I can easily put the nut back on the bottom and use it as it came from the factory. I love versatility!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Accessory! This is a great accessory! I bought it so I could mount both my Zoom H4 recorder and Rode VideoMic. Works great! It's pretty small and light weight, which is great for shooting on DSLR. My only negative is that if feels a little flimsy like you're going to scratch it when you screw down the mounted items, and it only can take a hot shoe in one direction. If the hot shoe base isn't square, you may need to buy an adapter. I had to do that for my Rode VideoMic, since I would otherwise have to turn it sideways, but it was completely worth it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not very sturdy. Not very wide. I was planning on placing two shoe mount flashes on this. It was not wide enough. It is made of plastic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product The NEW Panasonic HCX1000 does not have female screw mounts in the handle as many panasonic many cameras usually do. I needed to find a way to mount my wireless receiver so it would be sturdy and functional. I bought this shoe extension because if its size I mounted the shoe and my wireless receiver fits perfectly to the right of on-camera lighthowever like other reviews the shoe extension becomes slightly loose so I added some velcro for extra safety and once I get around to it I will try to add some lock nut washers to the tie downs other than that its a fine item for it is and cost

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total Junk I don't even give this one a single star. The review process requires that you give it at least 1 star. It's flimsy, will not tighten to the hot shoe, and will not tighten to itself to keep it straight. I try to always write honest reviews on my equipment so I guess the bad comes along with the good at times. Sent this one back as it was not worthy to be in my bag. Also, and this is not their fault, but the Canon GPS receiver will not fit in this product. The hot shoe attachment on the GPS is too long to fit between the grooves. This is most likely true of all cold shoe extensions.

Does the bar swivel or is it always parallel to the film plane? I want a shoe mounted bar that can be parallel and also turn 90 degrees.
    Asked by: Thomas O.
The bar swivels by slightly loosening the top screw. I use it to get my mic closer to the subject.

    Is this aluminum or plastic?

    Is this aluminum or plastic?
    Asked by: Matthew
I had to check this. It IS plastic and NOT metal but in my opinion certainly heavy duty enough for anything I can imagine using this for. Super useful for mounting a mic just far enough back to get it out of the shot.
