Hosa Technology MUS-439 Reviews
Surely one of the best portable stands - almost 100% metal!
I've owned or used a few other folding music stands and they all suffer from the same problem: plastic used on critical parts. Granted, I got over 10 years out of my ProLine stand, but in the end it was a stupid little plastic cam lever that broke and now makes the stand no longer portable (I keep that one standing at home). When shopping for a new one, I looked at so many of these and still saw plastic used at critical locations such as the tripod pivot joint or the adjustment clutches. I did not want to encounter the same problem, so when I saw this Hosa stand and even called Hosa to confirm that the parts were all metal, it gave me high hopes. Having received it, I feel very confident this will be a reliable stand, and it's substantially lighter weight than my old ProLine stand. The tripod pivot - the best name I can think of for the part where the three legs join and slide up and down the center tube - is made of METAL! In fact, the only plastic I can detect on here are the knobs used to tighten the adjustment points. I like the way the tray completely detaches from the stand. I also like the relatively thin, perforated tray, because it saves weight and I don't really need it to be that sturdy (I use only digital sheet music on tablets now). Overall, for the price range under fifty dollars, this is surely one of the very best portable music stands. I gig once or twice a month and will be using it exclusively, so I might decide to write a follow-up review after a year or so and report on its durability.
Light and sturdy
The perforated plate is made of a softer thin metal sheet, and bends easily (hence -one star). It is, however, just as easy to straighten out without any tools, and it is very light. The tripod is very reliable, and with a proper attachment can easily be turned into a small and very portable mike stand.
