Tram TR50 Overview

The white Tram TR50 is a miniature omnidirectional lavalier microphone designed to deliver clear speech and dialog with a natural sound that mixes well with boom microphones, making it popular among professional sound recordists working in TV, film, broadcast, videography, and more.

The mic's omnidirectional polar pattern provides a generous 360° pickup response that helps to keep levels consistent, even if the talent turns and isn't speaking directly in the direction of the capsule. The flat, upward facing design allows the mic to be easily concealed while also helping it to resist clothing and rustling noises.

The TR50 features a 40 Hz to 16 kHz frequency response with a gentle 3 to 4 dB boost in the high frequencies for added clarity with minimum sound coloration, especially helpful if the mic is hidden behind clothing or fabric. Well suited to wireless applications, the mic features a 4.5' cable available in a variety of connectors for direct integration with bodypack transmitters. This model features a locking 3.5mm connector wired for use with Sennheiser transmitters and other compatible devices.

This version of the TR50 is wired with a positive bias which means that, in addition to being powered by your wireless transmitter, it can also be used for wired XLR applications by plugging into the TR79+ power supply (available separately). The TR79+ accepts external phantom power or uses internal battery power. A tie bar, tie tac, clip-on holder, and tape-down holder are provided to help you mic up your subject. A windscreen, cable holder, and carrying case are also included.

Locking 3.5mm Connector
Compatible Wireless Transmitters
  • Sennheiser: Works with Sennheiser bodypack transmitters equipped with a locking 3.5mm connector, including the Evolution (ew), XSW-D, and SpeechLine (SL) Series
  • Also works with many third-party wireless transmitters and portable audio recorders that are equipped to supply 1.5 VDC through a locking 3.5mm connector wired for Sennheiser compatibility.
Professional-Quality Sound for TV, Film, Video, and More
Miniature Mic Plays Well with Other Mics
The TR50 offers a small, flat design that offers flexible positioning options while isolating the mic capsule to help resist rustling and clothing noise—especially helpful for hidden or concealed uses. The mic's clear, uncolored reproduction of speech and dialog mixes well with boom mics in post production.
Headroom for Robust Speakers and Performers
With its ability to handle SPLs up to 134 dB, the mic offers plenty of headroom for most speech and vocal applications.
Omnidirectional Polar Pattern
The forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern picks up sound from all around the mic and provides a consistent frequency response, even for off-axis sound. This helps to supply clear, intelligible speech and vocals, even when the talent isn't speaking directly toward the microphone.
Positive Bias
This version of the TR50 is wired with a positive bias. When used with the TR79+ power supply (available separately), this allows the mic to be powered via 48V phantom power or the LR44 battery in the power supply for wired use with XLR equipment. Negative-bias versions of the TR50 do not support phantom power and can only operate on the battery-powered TR79.

How long is the cable and will this Tram TR50 Mic work directly in a camcorder such as a Sony Z-190 — with a longer XLR cable attached?
Asked by: Jim
The cable for the TR50 is 4.5 feet long. The mic can be connected directly to the Sony camcorder or used with an additional XLR cable to extend the length. The mic requires 12 to 48V phantom power and the camera will supply it.

Can I use this with a Zoom H5? If so how?

Can I use this with a Zoom H5? If so how?
Asked by: David
You will need a TRS-to-XLR adapter. These are common. Turn on phantom power for the H5 inputs. Also confirm that turning on phantom power in the H5 will not cause damage to the XLR inputs of, for instance, a camera to which you might feed that audio signal. This is a warning related to the F4. Can't say so for the H5, but you don't want to learn that the hard way.
