The 603 PAIR from MXL is a stereo pair of microphones for instrument and vocal recording in project studios. The 603 features a wide-cardioid, small-diaphragm condenser element with a wide, flat-frequency response. Its transformerless output stage improves the signal-to-noise ratio for a clearer output signal. The wide-cardioid polar pattern excels in capturing instruments and vocals with minimal residual noise and feedback.

How/where do you mount these if micing a grand piano?
While there are many ways to mic a grand piano, the most straight forward approach would be to place each of these on boom mic stands, and place one over the bass portion of strings, and the other over the treble portion. Please make sure the distance from string to capsule are the same for each mic, and that if above the strings at 1', the mics are separated by 3' of space.

Will this connect to an iPad USB?
Will this connect to an iPad USB?
Not directly. You would need mic cables, and a two channel audio interface for an iPad, such as B&H # IKIRIGPRODUO. Please note this setup is best used for recording audio in stereo. Any attempt to live stream would result in a single channel mono pickup, not stereo.

question
Would this set be appropriate for ASMR/binaural recording? I am on a relative budget but want as best quality of sound as I can get.
appropriate is relative. these are good mics. they compare to Shure SM81s. They are accurate. their part in the total audio chain from reality to ASMR is just one part. my guess is that they will work well. again, all the other parts of the audio chain have their own effects. most important is how YOU will use them.
