Plume W75 overview

  • 1Description

The Plume Wafer Softbox is known for its smooth quality of light. Three different sailcloths are used for the Wafer diffuser, its baffles and the interior ellipses. A special aluminum fiberglass cloth around the flash head opening helps to eliminate heat and UV damage.

The more shallow Wafer profile results from using a combination of an aluminum tent tube with a fibreglass fishing rod. Inner baffles, rear closures and ring adapters are all interchangeable.

The Wafer 75 is a small size softbox, and is for portraits of 2 people, or a setup of 2 - 3 smaller-than-a-breadbox items.

Leather reinforced corners.
Shallow depth of the softbox results in ease of use in small shooting areas.
Flush-fronts allow ganging of boxes with no visible seams in photograph.
Required Speed (mounting) Rings are available separately for many manufacturers' strobes.

    Plume W75 reviews

Wafer 75 Softbox for Flash - 22x30" is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a Plume I use this for portrait and fashion, great for studio and location. Comes with a small carry bag. Quality is great, what I like about this softbox is that it can be used many different ways. For example you can use it with or without the front diffussion for a different look. Also the internal baffle has a special pattern of little dots which make the lighting more even than a conventional softbox. If you are starting out in studio photography get one of these with a lightools grid, then you will have a very directional light that is easy to control in a small studio. Quality of light is awesome compared to bowens reflectors with grids.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made and nice quality of light I own about 7 of the Plume Wafers in different sizes. I have used them since about 1990 and they really hold up well if treated right. I have had a few of the aluminum rods break and got replacements promptly. Over time the scrim material may have yellowed a bit but with digital it doesn't matter as I correct color in post processing. Other than a few broken rods most of the travel cases have deteriorated but that's over a lot of years. Plume offers a special trade discount price if you want to upgrade.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Meh? It was time to replace my 25 year old soft box and I was looking for something smaller and more portable. Unfortunately, this one isn't all that portable. True, it can be broken down and folded into a small and easily moved package. The problem comes with reassembly. Too much to stretch and velcro in place. I considered returning it, but am going to try and make it work. Maybe I'll come back and update this review, maybe not.
