Visual Echoes FX2 Overview

The Visual Echos FX2 Better Beamer Flash Extender will help increase the reach of the flash and increases the flash output by about 2 to 3 f/stops. It focuses and concentrates the output of the flash into a narrow beam via the fresnel panel that gets positioned in front of the flash. This allows shooting at greater distances and shooting with smaller apertures.

The Better Beamer is designed to be used with lenses 300mm and longer, and its rugged, injection-molded plastic side supports are attached to the flash head by a sturdy elastic "hook-and-loop" band. The rigid supports hold the Fresnel screen in place in both horizontal and vertical formats.

The FX2 version will fit larger flash heads, e.g. Canon 540EZ, 550EX, Nikon SB-25 and SB-26, Sigma EF 500 series, Minolta 5600. The measurement between the two attachment flaps is 1 3/4".

Excellent for wildlife and birding photography, where long-distance fill-flash is often required, especially with a bright sunlight background. The use of fill flash opens up the shadows without the appearance that a flash was used.
When used with TTL flash metering, exposure is automatically set by the camera and flash, and no special compensation is required.
Reduces the drain on battery power by two-thirds.

I've used the Beamer only a couple times I am impressed with how it extended the flash.

It does the job in a lightweight package

I have owned 4 or 5 of these over the years since they were first introduced. The downfall of them is usually that the Velcro strips on at the ends of the beamer to hold the Fresnel screen in place fall off. These products do what they are supposed to do, but don't look at them as long term investments. If you need them, you need them and they are worth the money. When the better beamers first came out they were supplied with a broad elastic band that held them to the flash unit. Nowadays they come with Velcro to wrap around the flash unit with even more Velcro to attach to the flash unit to catch that Velcro (which often falls off). I personally hate them. To me the original method with the elastic bands was far superior. The elastic band held the Better Beamer more securely to the flash unit and was quicker to attach. Fortunately I still have one functional elastic band from one of my previous Better Beamers that I can use, but only one. I don't know what I would do if it becomes lost or damaged. They really should supply both the elastic band and the Velcro with the unit, or at least offer the elastic band as an accessory. For that reason I'm knocking 2 stars off a 5 rating. It's not often that a superior product has been made worse over the years, but this one has.

The Better Beamer is held on by a velcro strap. It may not be a perfect fit but it should work, your results may vary.
