    Pacific Image 3650 Reviews

PowerSlide 3650 Automated 35mm Slide Scanner is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from PowerSlide 3650-Great Value The PowerSlide 3650 scanner does a fine job, especially since I have about 10,000 slides to do. I wouldn't live long enough doing 4-6 at a time. I set it up and let it do it's thing. They should include, or at least oficially recommend the Braun 100s Slide Magazine instead of the 50 slide version. The 100s magazine requires a full 100 slide load to prevent imbalanced backup of the magazine. The user manual is virtually useless, especially with regard to the CyberView X software. Fortunately the use of the machine is intuitive, but it would be useful if the various settings and theeir results were discussed in detail.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome for scanning lots of slides! I recently embarked on scanning thousands of family slides. I chose this scanner since it can scan batches of slides at a time. Installation is pretty easy. It works well on XP and Vista PC's. The Digital ICE seems to clear some of the imperfections. After lots of use; however, the software (and PC) seem to slow considerably. After about 150 slides a reboot of the machine and PC is necessary. To scan 50 slides at the maximum resolution takes about 2 hours. The only major problem relates to the automatic slide feeder jamming on warped slides. If the slides are not perfectly flat, the scanner will jam. Overall, it is a great machine that does the job well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this scanner But the software provided has scant documentation which was frustrating, leading to some trial and error. The hardware itself seems to work flawlessly, despite comments that the provided slide rack jams easily, I've had no such problem. I fact I bought a Braun 100s round tray as had been reccomended and find that it is much more inconvenient than the straight flat tray. Use the digital ICE enhancement at your own peril, as it does appear to cause artifact in the resultant image. Also be aware that the scanner has a USB 2.0 interface only. There is no firewire connection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent scanner for the price Good scanner for the price. Love the automatic scan and you can purchase additional trays which help. For our use it is much better then having to use a flatbed. The software that it comes with is amazing. It perfectly removes dust and scratches from slides automatically and we have had some pretty awful ones. Very easy to use, which also means not a lot of options,,, but. The drawbacks are that it is slow at scanning although thats why they have the 50 slide tray. Also old slides that are warped or coming apart can jam up the tray meaning you will have to single scan those. It is also kind of loud for a scanner. All in all happy with the purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just a bit pricey The quality of the scanned slide is pretty good. I strongly recommend that your internet connection be turned off and any scanners unplugged. Several times the software lost the connection to the scanner. As yet, the option of scanning directly to file hasn't worked well with a dropped connection to the scanner on each trial. When scanning to Adobe Photoshop once you are sure it is scanning properly you can do other tasks while the 50 slides are scanned. It takes about an hour for scanning 50 slides. The actual scanning process is pretty noisy and can be heard a room or two away. At least you know the scanner is still functioning.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Walk Away Happy It was time to get the mildewed family slide carousels out of the basement, and drag those hundreds of slides into the current (digital) environ. I've got sixteen 140-slide carousels to digitize. This looked like the best solution. I've only been using this unit for two days, but I've already successfully scanned three carousels. The only jambs have been with the included 50-slide cartridge. Use the suggested Braun carousel instead. The SyberView X-MS software documentation is poor. The included Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 is now three versions back from the current version. Overall, this is a terrific load 'em up and walk away solution. I'll doctor the best slides with my current version of Photoshop Elements at a later date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Device I decided to digitize 50 years of my slides as a permanent family record. There are over 20,000 slides to process. I am very happy with my PowerSlide 3650. I have processed over 5,000 slides, so far, and I am delighted with the quality and the speed. It takes about one minute per slide when I use the 100 Slide Carousel accessory I purchased. I have learned how to reduce the number of occasional jams, I average only one jammed slide in 100. The Scanner comes with a copy of PhotoShop, which I use to bring some old slides back to life. It is a great device for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bulk slide scanner delivers I've scanned a few batches of 20 or so slides with very good results so far. The scanner allows for multiple resolutions, from 300 to 3600. I found 3000 to be about optimal, based on my limited tests. The PowerSlide is pretty reliable, but the software installation instructions leave much to be desired. Took me a couple of tries to get everything installed in order. I plan to scan my own 1000 or so slides, my dad's several thousand, and do some for some friends. So it will get a workout.
