You can use 2 or more different colored safelights as long as your materials are rated safe for each color. Most black and white papers can be used under either red or amber. However some materials such as ortho lith films can only be used with red safelights.

How do you open the premier safelight? Mine came right out of the box and does not turn on. I can hear a chain rattling around but I can't open it to get it out. The light flashes on and then goes out.
The top and bottom flanges of the lens retainer have holes through which stubby pins from the chassis register and hold the retainer in place. If one flange is gently pried away from the chassis the retainer will swing away, allowing access to the lamp.
