The Apache from Frontier Design is a twelve-port optical patchbay that can send and receive signals in either ADAT (eight-channel) or TOSLink (two-channel) format. Each of unit's optical inputs can be patched independently to one or more of its optical outputs, allowing the user to patch a signal from one device to another, or distribute a signal to multiple devices.
The patching options can be controlled from the front panel or from a computer that's connected to the Apache MIDI In port. Sets of patches can be stored as presets which can then be recalled, allowing for quickly reconfiguring an entire studio. Using presets, optical signals can be completely re-patched with only two button presses.
