The Smear Away Solution from Visible Dust is used to remove the toughest stains and smears from sensors that are not easily removable using other solutions. These tough spots could include chamber coating film, electronic wax, lubricating oil, saliva drops and more. Smear Away solution works well with Visible Dust Green Series Swabs ONLY.

VisibleDust 2351918-1 Reviews
Great stuff!
Accidentally got a little spittle on my sensor (don't ask) and regular sensor fluid didn't do a thing. Once swipe with this stuff and it was gone.
It really works!
It remove all marks on sensor. I'm very pleased.
Works on oil but leaves a film behind
When there are spots on a sensor that the standard Eclipse solution cannot remove I will use the VisibleDust Smear Away cleaning solution and it works without fail. It does however, leave behind a film that I then need to clean off using Eclipse sensor cleaning solution to finish the job.
Musthave
Solution is best of that I've already tried.
Does the Job
Having some grunge on my sensor & mirror that were not removed with Sensor Clean, I ordered Smear Away. It took a couple of swabs, but the spots were removed and everything was nice and shiny clean. Works as intended and I would buy it again.
Fine product - practice makes perfect
Visible Dust makes excellent products, but as with any process involving dexterity, you must practice some at first. My first attempt was on a camera I had owned for 5 years and never cleaned. I began by using the VisibleDust Vswab Ultra MXD-100 and VisibleDust Sensor Clean Solution (their standard cleaning solution). I used all 12 swabs I had. Sometimes it looked better, sometimes worse, but never good. I bought 12 more swabs and the other two cleaners in the product line: VDust Plus and Smear Away. I used Smear away one time and the sensor looked better but not good. After the second application with Smear Away, the sensor looked better still. It seemed to me that 2 applications of Smear Away had finally removed whatever gunk had been causing the problem of crud being moved around the sensor but not actually eliminated, so I moved on to using the VDust Plus. One application with VDust Plus and everything looked very good except for one tiny blob near the lower-left corner and I deemed the job Close enough for jazz. I did not want to risk messing up a near-perfect result for one tiny blob in that location (which should be fixable in post for nearly all images.) I also have the VisibleDust Quasar Sensor Loupe. It is a nice instrument, but did not actually do much to help me with cleaning the sensor. Certainly it gives you a good visual of the insides, and it might help you identify the nature of the substance on the sensor, but you can see what you need to see only with an exposure. I used a trick I found online: open a blank Word file and zoom in to about 400% This gives you a very nice, even background to shoot, and any dust will show readily. Don't forget to stop way down.
Did the job eventually
I used this with the recommended swabs to get light grease off 2 sensors. It took 6 swabs and around 20+ wipes to get it off. Eventually it worked when my previous solution didn't, so I'm happy. This experience was horrific as you can imagine, with ever swap I threw aside, believing the next one will do it, until finally it did, with no sensor damage. The grease residue was the type left over by the camera's built in ND filters.
VDust Plus & Smear Away save the day!
Was reviewing some shots from earlier in the day and realized that in the back ground of the sky there was entirely too much schmootze in the back ground and would take me forever to Photo Shop out. Got an order to B&H for this and some Visible Dust MXD-100 cleaning swabs and within 24 hrs was working on my sensor. It did take me 4 cleanings to get the sensor 100% clean but that's because I was not happy w/ leaving 2 small dots on the edge of the sensor. It was also my first attempt at cleaning a sensor and was hesitant dragging the swab across. Drag it once across, flip the brush and re drag and do a test shot to check. Wow ! Very impressed. My colleague had a little different situation and he had streaks/ a film across his sensor so he used the Smear Away, and again it wasn't a one & done but after 3 swabs of Smear Away and a final Vdust Plus swipe his sensor was like new. Great product. Not looking to have to clean my sensor anytime soon but now know I can confidently make it happen.
