Cavision FTG4X4PL overview

  • 1Description

The Cavision 4 x 4" Linear Polarizer Filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 3mm-thick, 4 x 4" rectangular filters. It helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not contain an additional quarter wave plane. The addition of a quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, in-camera auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions. This filter is recommended when not using in-camera exposure metering or autofocus.

    4 x 4" Linear Polarizer Filter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from not bad ! this filter was used in a number of landscape photos in witch there where a lot of reflections.though it did preform the well, it could have had more contrast saturation and a bit more dampening of the reflections.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The name says it all... We bought this because we needed a linear pola for use in our matte box for some pro work. It came in, and we were happy. The glass doesn't .... Feel flimsy like some others we've handled. The unit has a black cover, for lack of a better word, all the way around it on the edge. It keeps you from touching the glass itself. It works, however... Do not buy this if you do not have a 4x4 mounting system in your camera, you will not be able to use it without accessories.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You need this! Polarizing filters obviously are useful when shooting thru a window. But a polarizer can control all sorts of subtle highlights on faces, leaves, almost any surface.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from ..glass not optically clear Optically flawed. Unable to focus once zoomed in due to flaws in the glass. only good for wide shots. 1/10

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Polarizer for the Price! I use this polarizer for outdoor landscape cinematography. When shopping for polarizers, many are quite expensive. This one was a fraction the cost of some competing filters, but very affordable. It's also one of the few polarizers on the market that will fit into a 3mm thick carrier tray, such as the one on my dp 3000 matte box. The filter is effective and has minimal image degradation. I cannot say that I see a visible decrease in image quality with the filter in place. The results are quite interesting, with blue skies deepened in color to the point where they appear as only a fighter pilot at 60,000 feet altitude would see them. They effectively eliminate haze. The filter is also effective at eliminating reflections off windows, allowing the camera to see in. For example, if the camera is mounted on the bonnet of an automobile to shoot the front seat occupants, rotating the filter a bit will make a clean windshield appear invisible. For my type of shooting, it gets the job done with no major compromises.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product For Price I have only used this filter a few times so far but it seems to be no different then some of the more expensive filters I have used it the past. Also, not mentioned under Item Includes, this filter comes in it's own case wrapped in a cleaning cloth. Excellent buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME! A Must Have Recently purchased a Matte Box and noticed that most square filters were expensive. This is a great product from a reputable company. Also a GREAT PRICE so I can test the filter assembly of my Matte Box. I plan to shoot reflective surfaces and this is a MUST!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good Great filter at a very reasonable price. This seemed to work as effectively as more expensive polas, and comes with a great little case and cleaning cloth. I wasn't expecting that for the price.
