Archival Methods 31-003 overview

  • 1Description

A 50 pack of Side Lock Polypropylene Film Sleeves from Archival Methods can prevent scratched or damaged original images. These sleeves are designed to be used with 4x5" film. In addition, oils from hands will not do films and negatives any good. It is, therefore, standard practice to always keep originals and even dupes in protective sleeves both for handling and long-term storage. Crystal clear Polypropylene sleeves allow viewing or inspection without removal and protect the image from dirt and scratches during handling and in storage.

Archival Methods believes that a good image should be protected and preserved from both human and environmental damage. These 3 mil protective sleeves are the perfect remedy. Use them with confidence. They should also be used with any one of a number of optional Archival Methods Storage Systems, i.e. Boxes and Containers.

Compatible with 4x5" film
Film sleeves are available in archivally safe, clear 3 mil Polypropylene
A self-locking side fold holds film in place; sleeves "unlock" to open completely for safer film removal without sliding image inside the sleeve

Side Lock Polypropylene Film Sleeves (4x5" 50 Pack) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what I expected These are ok, with the exception of the adhesive strip on the over flap. The adhesive is too strong and as a result, to get film out, a great deal of force needs to be applied. I decided I won't be using any if the 50 I bought because I an concerned the excess force needed to open a sleeve will damage my film.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly what it says: film sleeves I purchased this product not for storing film but for protecting Character cards from the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game published by Fantasy Flight games. Much in the way baseball cards sleeves protect baseball and other playing cards. I'm mostly satisfied with this product, and will be purchasing two more sets to ensure all my cards are protected. The sleeves protect my cards well with but two exceptions: First is that the sides are open allowing liquid intrustion when the inevitable spill happens on the gaming table. Second the enclosing fold does not allow for easy shuffling, and opens easily during rough handling. I feel these setbacks do not dimish the value of this product since I'm using the product outside the parameters it was designed for. Indeed I'm grateful a product like this exists at all. I hope my review assists you in making your decision.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Scanner Holder Too! I took the recommendation to use these to protect my 4x5 negatives because of the way they hinge open (you avoid sliding the emulsion against the sleeve like you have to on pocket-style holders). I also discovered that, by cutting the flap off one of these, they make a great negative holder to almost eliminate Newton's rings while scanning 4x5's with the borders directly on the scanner glass! I'm not sure I'd use this technique for making a high resolution print, but it certainly works well for social media / blog posting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad, but not the best These sleeves are fine for protecting 4x5 negs, but are not as durable as other brands I've used. They do however, do everything they are required to and are a reasonable price. Happy to recommend.
