Radial Engineering ProAV2 overview

  • 1Description

The ProAV2 from Radial Engineering is a passive direct box designed for multi-media applications with the audio-video integrator in mind. The unit provides full two-channel stereo functionality and includes 1/4" for instruments and RCA connectors for consumer electronics and computers.

Custom wound transformers are employed that are able to withstand exceptionally hot levels while maintaining linearity from 20Hz to 18.5kHz. The resulting smooth Bessel curve is warm and natural, making the AV2 particularly adept at handling digital sources that can sound harsh.

Transformer isolation adds the benefit of eliminating ground loops that cause audio hum and buzz and video hum bars or snow. The ProAV2 is ideal for events where full stereo operation is required.

Professional stereo direct box for multimedia applications
Easy to use
Ultra-quiet passive design requires no external power source
Eliminates ground loops that can cause hum and buzz
Handles huge transients without distortion
The 14 gauge steel "bookend design" outer shell creates a protected zone around the connectors and switches
Inner steel enclosure is made extremely rigid with an I-beam profile, eliminating any stress that could torque the PC board and cause solder joint failure
Military-grade double-sided PCB is bolted to steel standoffs for road-tough construction
The neoprene foam foot provides electrical isolation and plenty of friction to stay put

    Radial Engineering ProAV2 reviews

ProAV2 Direct Box is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handle almost any problem with this I think I could plug a toaster in and get good audio out... seriously, I shoot in Churches, hotels and other locations where I have to or need to tap into the soundboard I find. Sometimes I get lucky and it's easy, sometimes the only thing is a phono plug out that's hot as heck. On occasion there is a ground loop that's has to be fixed. If you have this little box, you've got that converted, covered and fixed. Built like a tank, this thing is not delicate, you can drive a nail with it so it'll stand up to a lot of abuse with no problem. If you have to deal with a lot of different inputs and outputs, this packs most conversion solutions into one box and lets you tap in for mono or stereo ouptut.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from yep, it's a radial Awesome little box. I use it a lot doing freelance live sound when people throw consumer grade output at me. iPads, phones, mp3 players, anything with a headphone jack is fair game to get clean mic level signal. Also good for stereo keys, mono bass, and has rca inputs I have yet to try out. Independent lifts for the stereo pair and ground switch. Can also be used as a hammer or thrown deadly missile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The first DI you'll grab Well maybe the second. For most DI applications users are looking to convert either a mono or stereo unbalanced line level source to a mono balanced line level output. But if you tying into a bigger system with multi-channel output then this is your DI. It features stereo RCA inputs, a 3.5mm (1/8 stereo) input, and a pair of mono 1/4 TS inputs. So no matter what your stereo audio source is, this should be able to safely convert it to a balanced stereo output. Basically where most DIs have a single transformer inside to a single XLR output, this has two transformers to two XLR outputs. That's it in a nutshell. Of course this only works if you have two channels of audio input. As for the mechanics, this is a passive DI which means it requires no power to operate. But even better than that is the fact that like all DIs this also creates an isolation point for systems so that noise and dangerous electrical transients aren't able to bridge from on side of the box to the other. This protects the gear on both ends of the box. Some people believe (incorrectly) that you don't need a DI to tie unbalanced signals into a balanced XLR input. However believe it or not there is a risk to the PA pre-amps by simply feeding unbalanced loads into them. As much as it would hurt to loose a guitar or the audio circuitry on your laptop. What would hurt more is a bill for a hundreds or even thousands of dollars from an angry hall after you toast a channel on their pre-amp. I use mine for multimedia presentations. 90% of the time I'm using mono system installations. However larger rooms and bigger systems can sound flat with only a mono mix audio so I decided to buy a stereo box for those occasions where it might be better suited.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I had tried to eliminate a noise since several months from my mixer. Unfortunately my PC always produced an electric irritating noise in my mixer and i cant eliminate with other boxes until now. Initially i thought use the Stage bug (cheaper), but finally I decide use this DI box because has a stereo balanced Output. Eureka! my world change! This product its very recomendable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delivered as advertised This box saves space while still delivering the outstanding quality Radial is known for. In todays world you have to have the ability to run new and old technology and this box gives you that flexibility. This is a great option for my digital board which does not have the routing options of analog. Overall, a great product and I highly recommend all Radial Engineering products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best PC Audio To Console Accessory This DI removes all of the hassle of interconnecting the 3.5mm audio/headphone out on a computer to a balanced input on a typical audio mixer or console. Also, ideal for interconnecting any unbalanced line level device with RCA outs into a balanced mic input. It's great for running pc audio down a snake into a mixer at front-of-house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well and in Stereo A trifle pricy but it seems to be a very sturdy box. Worked really well for coverting headphone out from iPad and iPhone to mic level on both mixer and direct mic inputs on speakers. Used it for intermission music through mixer also used it for simple party music setup - iPod -> ProAV2 -> EV Live X Powered Speakers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A solid solution Recently I've had several singers coming into the studio to record with mp3's. This started me on a search for the highest possible quality audio signal to feed into my DAW- regardless if it was being supplied by a laptop, iPad, iPhone or any other mp3 device. Enter Radial Engineering's ProAV2. The best way I've found to present the optimum signal to your boutique mic pre (or mixer pre). The ProAV2 is a passive DI, so you can rest assured it's the quietist signal possible. I highly recommend this DI to DJ's or ANYONE that is interfacing with PC's, laptops, ipads, iphones or whatever. We use these DI's to interface our laptop and PC audio outputs to the PA system at church. Doing so virtually eliminates any problems with hum and buzz, impedance mismatching, or problems caused when summing the stereo output of the device to mono. In the studio environment, I've come to depend on several other Radial DI's - the SGI, the JDI Duplex, and the J33 to transfer vinyl to CD. All are rock solid and the ProAV2 is no exception.
