Rodenstock 452340 overview

  • 1Description

An ideal enlarging lens for film formats up to 24 x 36mm, the Apo-Rodagon-N 50mm f/2.8 from Rodenstock is well-suited to general black & white and color enlarging applications, and can also be used as a high-resolution macro taking lens for film and digital cameras. Using an eight-element optical design, this apochromatically corrected lens fully eliminates color fringing and spherical aberrations to benefit both color and monochrome reproductions. Its recommended working aperture is f/4-5.6, and its recommended scale range of 2x to 20x benefits making mini enlargements up to mural-sized prints. Additionally, for ease of use, the lens is fitted with an illuminated f/stop scale, a convenient preset aperture setting, and a click-stop diaphragm that can be de-clicked depending on preference.

    Rodenstock 452340 reviews

    Apo-Rodagon-N 50mm f/2.8 Enlarging Lens is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal Darkroom Optic This lens replaced a Nikon El Nikkor 50 2.8 The first prints I made from it was clearly superior in terms of gradation and sharpness to the Nikon. It is a real gem of a lens, instilling confidence when I set out to make a print from a good 35mm negative. All 4 of my enlarger lenses are now German made glass. This Rodenstock has mechanical extras such as click/smooth aperture stop adjustments and aperature pre-set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As Good As It Gets! I recently was able to compare this with a Schneider 45mm APO that I have. Admittedly, at all magnifications, I simply couldn't tell the results apart. Both had great sharpness, almost identical contrast, lack of vignetting and even sharpness across the image. I prefer and use the Rodagon as it's a bit brighter for composition but could happily use either. I'm leaving this review in case someone is choosing between the two. I'd use a coin flip to decide! Remember that these tend to be sharpest relatively wide open (I use 4.0-5.6 most) so you need to have your equipment properly aligned as there's little depth of field to add forgiveness for alignment issues. Glass carriers help to extract what this lens can do, too.
