Photoflex 870283 overview

  • 1Description

The Photoflex First Studio Two-Light Portrait Kit is suited for general photography or videography. It is lightweight, easy to set up, and provides soft, even tungsten light. It provides enough light for a 2-3 person group portrait, or a 3 x 4' product setup.

The kit includes 7' light stands, umbrellas, and bulbs.

The silver umbrellas have black backings to minimize stray light and to better utilize the light from the fixtures.
The aluminum light stands rise to a maximum height of 7 feet and collapse down to 28 inches.

First Studio Two-Light Portrait Kit (120 VAC) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Low Light I bought the Photoflex First Studio kit hoping it to be a good first lighting kit. This has not been the case. While the materials, stands and construction are much better than cheaper units you can buy, the 250 watt bulbs for each unit are far short of being usable in a typical situation. I hope to be able to find a way to boost the 250 to 500 watts as this is a minimum if you want enough light to shoot at reasonable f-stops and shutter speeds. The only way I could get enough light into my Nikon D50 was to heavily boost my ISO or to use a flash which defeated the purpose of the light. Bought this kit to use at the recent Help-Portrait event and finally boxed it up and used another set-up that someone brought that was 2-500 watt softboxes that were spectacular. By the time I mod this kit, I could have bought the softbox kit I was originally looking at in the first place.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I approve! Used it for a portrait of my two children, and plan to do family portraits. The lights do seem dim, but once I placed them where I liked them there was plenty of light. The pictures came out a thousand times better than using just a flash. I'm not a professional, but I am a picky graphic designer. I approve of these lights as a great starter set! I would have liked some instructions on setup though. There was a bit of a learning curve with that.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sturdy Set A very sturdy set for the price, these light stands are very heavy duty yet maintain a light weight for transport. The umbrella refection and light quality is also pretty good at such a low price point. The only downside is that this set doesn't come with a bag or case to pack everything up safely, and protect the bulbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice stuff This is my first investment in studio lighting so really have no basis for comparison. I can tell you that the quality & finish of the product is of fine quality. For example, I bought the Impact reflector kit which came with a stand and you can tell it is cheaply made whereas the stand with this kit is of a much nicer and sturdier finish. Portraits have been coming out well. Documentation is brief and helpful.
