The SpaceCoupler from Auralex is a solid wood product that uses a unique approach to solving acoustic problems. Developed by Russ Berger, loosely coupling spaces is a design technique used to achieve high-quality acoustic treatment results in very small recording spaces.
The technique basically "couples" an absorptive area with a live area while redirecting reflections around the live area. This can provide a "big room" reverberation tail that is smooth, without any acoustical artifacts or anomalies.
Additionally, SpaceCouplers can be used over flat absorbers to increase the absorber's efficiency, a space-conserving method of eliminating the floor-ceiling first and second order axial modes that plague basement and bedroom studios.
