The Verbatim DVD-R UltraLife Gold Archival Grade 4.7GB Recordable Disc (Spindle Pack of 50) is a write-once disc designed to preserve family photos and home movies as well as critical corporate data. Each disc is manufactured using single reflective layer to maximize both compatibility and longevity. To further extend media lifetime, there is a hard coating on the recording side to protect the discs from scratches. The disc uses a Metal Azo DVD recording dye optimizes read/write performance.

Single layer technology is comprised of a gold layer for long archival life. This feature provides a low initial error rate after recording, important for long archival life, and the same drive read/write compatibility as standard silver only discs. The gold reflective layer, naturally resistant to corrosion, prevents oxygen from coming through the DVD bonding material and corroding the silver reflective layer. Silver oxidation can be a primary factor which limits the lifetime of DVD media.

DVD-R UltraLife Gold Archival Grade 4.7GB Recordable Disc (Spindle Pack of 50) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top of the line Great for storing valuable video and photo Only time will tell if long term strorage if possible. I would still re-record every say 5-7 years or so. All have worked perfectly so far. I do not use any marker, even safe markers I use markers on the case. You can not use archival gold delkin pen because the discs have a hard coat. Disacs have to be stored in an appropiate case, vertically, with air flowing (thence the need for the bump in some cases to prop it up), and safely fastened but not so hard that it splits the center of the DVD when putting in and out -it isnot bonded like in the cd's-. and at the right temperature and humidity.Burn at slowest speed for better long term writing

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Long life span I like the 100 year life span of these DVD's. I really look forward to watching them at my 150th birthday party! I have not used any of these so I really can't review them, however I do want to be entered for the drawing. I can however tell you why I purchased these. The long shelf life is why I purchased these DVD's to use for backing up all our family's home movies. With companies wanting $30 or more to transfer a VHS to DVD we decided that we would come out ahead if we purchased our own VHS-DVD recorder and archive quality DVD's. I will add more after my 150th birthday party to tell you if the longevity claim holds up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from problems i've used these before. once in awhile, one would fail to burn, but i felt it was an acceptable rate of failure. i bought two spindles of 50 each. this time 4 out of the first 10 i tried to burn from one spindle of them failed to write!! I can't see what would have changed or affected the burning on my end. The system has stayed the same. To their credit, the company has said they'll replace the failed DVD's, but it's a pain to have to deal with sending them in and of course I'm hoping they'll actually honor their promise of replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for me As a Wedding photographer I use this to download the cards as insurance against anything that could go wrong during the day. Stolen cards, lost cards, anything that will keep us up all night worrying about lost memories of a client. The cards download quickly and are easy to find when i want to upload to my hard drive at the studio. I have read past reviews and was a bit concerned about the ease and ability to use on the fly. No worries at all. Used it without reading the manuel. Files safe and sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only time will tell I've had multiple DVDs fail when used as an archive. From other reviews I've found, these claim to be 100-year shelf life. So far they've lasted several years without degradation with the proper storage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality and consistent No bad discs in the group, surfaces are consistent and without defects, too soon to tell about bad sectors, but seems a viable and lower cost alternative to Mitsui

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very good product - will use more. Burned 50 DVDs without losing a disc, burn at the lowest rate, check the disc after the burn and all is fine, an excellent product.
