NETGEAR FVS338NA Overview

The ProSafe VPN Firewall 50 with 8-Port 10/100 Switch and Dial Back-Up from Netgear is a dedicated network firewall that also acts as a VPN endpoint and broadband router. The firewall protects your network from outside attacks while at the same time letting connected computers safely access the web. It features a serial port for back-up modem connection in the event of a broadband outage.

It includes integrated support for Network Address Translation (NAT), Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), Denial of Service (DoS) protection and Virtual Private Networking (VPN). It also features standard router functions and (8) 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports for device connectivity. This is an excellent choice to protect your network from dangerous attacks that can originate from the Internet.

8-Port Firewall and Router
The firewall features 8 LAN 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports and a WAN Ethernet port for Internet connectivity. Firewall functions include Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) Firewall and Denial of Service (DoS) protection. The device also supports Network Address Translation (NAT) and serves as a PPPoE or PPTP client for Internet connectivity.
Dial-Up Backup
The router features an RS-232 port with a DB-9 connector for external modem connection. This lets you connect an external modem that can be set to dial into an ISP in the event of a broadband outage. This helps to eliminate the downtime associated with Internet outages.
Network Management
The firewall can be administered via a web-based graphic interface from any computer on a network. The administrative panel is protected with a user name and password, ensuring that only authorized users can access it.
VPN Functions
The device includes a VPN server that allows up to 8 clients to connect simultaneously. It supports IKE SA assignment with pre-shared key, IPSec-based encryption and other common VPN security schemes.
