APC H10 overview

  • 1Description

The APC H10 Home Theater Power Conditioner will protect your high performance audio and video (A/V) system from damaging power surges, spikes and lightning. Protection is guaranteed. Isolated noise filter banks will eliminate EMI/RFI as a source of audio and video signal degradation. Data-line surge protection jacks will stop surges traveling over phone and modem or DSL lines. Digital Satellite System, Cable Modem, and CATV Coaxial Cable lines are equally protected.

Sequenced turn-on and off ensures that connected equipment is powered-up/down in the proper order and with the right amount of delay between the stages. This feature is pre-programmed with a six second delay. This delay feature eliminates transients that can affect connected components, e.g. digital projectors.

Surge Protection
The H10 provides a high level of surge protection for the voltage going into the unit, and additionally, surge protected coax/radio frequency (RF) connectors are protected against surges traveling over coaxial lines to protect your digital satellite system (DSS), CATV box, or cable modem. The telephone line surge protection provides a protected splitter to allow output to a telephone, modem, DSL, fax, DVR, DSS system, set-top internet service provider (such as WebTV), or pay-per-view cable TV function.
Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)
The H10 is unique in that it provides AVR, which is engaged to correct low and high voltage conditions. In doing so, all equipment connected to the H10 are protected against these undesired voltage fluctuations, thus, prolonging the life of the equipment.
Isolated Noise Filter Banks (INFB)
The H10 provides INFB technology to eliminate electromagnetic and RF interference that can negatively impact sound and video quality.

DC Trigger Mini-Jack
When connected to a component acting as a DC trigger, that component controls turn on/off of the "delayed" outlet banks. The H10 also allows that DC signal to pass through to another connected component. The maximum input voltage for the DC Trigger is 30VDC.

    APC H10 reviews

H10 Home Theater Power Conditioner is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks nice, seems to work My previous high-end head unit died by degrees: first the video processor, then advanced sound modes. Then I replaced it with a new unit. I was initially baffled by this until I realized our power flickers all the time, and I think it just couldn't take it any longer. And now the new unit was getting exposed to the same ride. Installed the APC and nothing flickers any longer. Not a very exciting product, but I'm sure it's doing its job. The blueray player used to have a funny little pause after larger power flickers, and they are now gone as well. Not exciting to watch, but provides solid protection of a big investment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good, but could be better priced I've had this for a week and it seems to be working fine. I have two UPS attached to it to keep my gear up and running in case of short outages, but this is not how it should be used. It would have been better if I had a high-VA/watt rated UPS attached to the wall then the H10 to the UPS, but I already had two low power UPS laying around. The main reason for buying the H10 is voltage regulation (AVR) and surge protection. A low end UPS doesn't offer much surge protection and usually no AVR. I didn't want to spend the extra money on the J10, nor did i have the space. Also, the BH price is great, but I still think this product is overpriced for what it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for Home Theaters I love this product. I recently built a home theater with a 54 inch plasma, blu-ray player, surround sound, wii, and DirecTV DVR and this protects my investment. The automatic power regulator/conditioner has already had to kick in a few times when the power coming from my outlet dipped. Easy to set up and start using. Seems pricy compared to basic surge protection but with my investment was a small price to pay for piece of mind....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cleaned Everything Up!! I got this as a way of dealing with the spaghetti behind our entertainment center...it has lots of plug in's and seems to be pretty good at regulating voltage...for example, I was using some electrical products in the kitchen and this caused the lights to dim slightly a couple of times. Steve was on the couch and said that the APC clicked a couple of times but the television stayed constant. It's expensive, but I think it's worth it, especially if you spend a lot of money on a television.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SATISFY TWO NEEDS IN ONE! Received my H10 Home Theater Power Conditioner about a week ago; plugged in: 2008 Sony HDTV LCD, first model Pioneer BD, Channel Master DVR, and my older Denon receiver; the picture on my TV is better (over-air antenna), the sound through my receiver seems clearer!!!!!!! The plus is that this unit conditions and acts as a surge protector; WELL WORTH THE MONEY! Purchased as a great surge protector and everything else is a bonus!!!!!!!! Over-air antenna viewing is uncompressed, better than cable or satellite; people are always commenting how great our tv picture is; and, that was pre-this-unit!!!! In our area, tv stations are 720p/1080i. No, my older tv is not upscaling!!! Satisfy two needs in one!!!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well built product I purchased the APC H10 to protect and condition the power line for my new amplifier, pre-amp, CD & Blu-ray. All NAD equipment, as well as my 50 Panasonic plasma TV. I have had the H10 for about 9 weeks now. This product has several positive reviews from consumers and professionals alike. Do some research online and you will find this out for yourself. Before I installed it into my stereo rack I opened the case to see the electronics inside. The first thing you see is a very large toroidial transformer that supplies power to the unit and helps support the boost phase if power from the AC wall line is low. The transformer looks similar to that in my NAD amplifier. All of the wires are well insulated at least 14g in size and all of the other components appear to be solid as well as the construction of the unit housing itself. It weighs at least 15 pounds by my estimation. Once connected this unit gives you some useful information such as line voltage, correct + or - phase, proper ground, etc. It will also tell you how much of a power load is being used by your equipment by percentage ie. 20%, 40% etc. This is interesting, when I have all of my attached equipment on and at a lively volume the most it will register is 40% load, so there is plenty of capacity for additional equipment. The power regulation feature has been useful for me as well. In my area, the power seems to be relatively stable, but a few times per week there is an abundance of voltage and the unit will go into voltage trim mode. This usually happens during non-peak elecricity usage times between 12am & 7am. I have not seen the boost mode turn on yet. I keep the unit in the narrow range setting for power regulation. The power filter seems to perform as anticipated as well. I used to see lines on the TV when the A/C or other high voltage appliances come on. This does not happen anymore since using the APC. As far as the stereo sound goes, I really can't tell any significant difference in the sound since I could not appreciate any power related problems before I purchased this unit. What I did notice was the lines and/or distortion on the TV that are now gone. The H10 definately gives me piece of mind, is very well constructed and does what it claims to do. I did alot of research prior to this purchase and for the nominal amount of money it costs, the H10 is probably the best of the bunch. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completly Satisfied I use this to provide clean power to my home theater consisting of a projector, reciever, bose acoustamass sub, BR-DVD player, video game consoles, etc. So far, even with everything powered up and booming I've only lit the 40% led for load. My system has never looked/sounded better even in spite of some very long speaker wire runs (about 65 feet in conduit). As for the quality, the APC is well built and sturdy to say the least. This is quality piece of equiptment from a top company, so you can rest assured that your gear is safe. I have had it in for about 3 weeks so far and have had storms come through the area, but not a single problem with my setup. I purchased this because I live in an older neighborhood with lots of trees and ariel power cables that often go out or have large voltage sags. This should be the first piece you buy for your home theater. Also, the LED's are dimable (they even turn off) so even though the rack for this is in the front of my room, no light bleeds onto my projector screen. In conclusion, this is a well built, attractive piece of eqpt that is worth its weight in gold (and it is VERY heavy)!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it says I bought the H10 to condition power and protect a new Sony KDL-37XBR6, Onkyo TX-SR606, Panasonic DMP-30BK, and Brighthouse (Scientific Atlanta) Digital HD Cable DVR. The unit sits behind the center channel speaker which is under a shelf built to raise the TV to a better height. With the dimmer set to minimum, I do not even know the unit is there. It is quiet, and the power conditioning seems to help the overall picture quality. Being in the lightning capital of the world also requires solid surge protection, which I know all APC products provide.
