Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly made - Don't buy it!!!! I purchased two of these - for both the Canon EF 300mm f2.8L IS and Canon EF 500mm f4L IS. They are just slopply made - stitching holes around clear plastic window started to rip open when putting the coat on the center portions of both lenses. There are no holes pre-cut in the clear plastic window for the various switches. You have to cut them in yourself. Instructions say that you can operate the switches without cutting - NO WAY!!! When you cut the respective holes, the window buckles and looks ugly. The only part that fits reasonably well was the cover/coat for the lens hood. The rest is JUNK.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It Will Remove Paint From Your Lens I purchased this product from LensCoat and applied it to my Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM telephoto lens in January 2010. The lens needed to be sold this year (May 2017). Therefore, the LensCoat had to be removed. Removing the adhesive backed piece protecting the rotating collar on the tripod mount removed a chunk of the white paint which instantaneously devalued the market value of the lens from Excellent to Excellent Minus. It was the only cosmetic imperfection on the lens caused by the removal of this LensCoat piece. It was disheartening to see this occur. An email was sent today to LensCoat with a photograph of the paint damage and the paint chip stuck on the back of the LensCoat strip. I am seeking compensation for the damage. I will never buy or recommend LensCoat again. Just avoid any aftermarket skin which requires it to be stuck onto the surface of your expensive lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from mostly for protection I shoot professional tennis and birds with this lens. When I was shooting smaller birds, just using my car as a blind, I was wearing a red hat and had this big white lens and in most of my pictures the birds were looking straight at me. With a camo hat and jacket and the lens coat wrap, the birds don't seem to notice my movement inside the car as much. they know I am there but they are not as nervous. Mostly, however, the wraps are for protecting the lens from dings and paint chips. It's an expensive lens- why not protect your investment. The custom fit is exactly that- it fits like a glove. The lens with the wrap, will still fit into the original hard case, but not with the big leather lens cap. That's OK though because it will fit with a lens hoodie on it, which is what I always use anyway. It is difficult to move the switches through the plastic with gloves on, but how often would you be doing that during an outing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LensCoat rocks! When a quality product comes out like this you just have to be happy. Well made, totally functional. I was worried about moving switches under the soft plastic window but that's no problem at all. I'm out shooting practically every day and I can't tell you how many nicks aren't on my lens because of Lenscoat. A great investment to keep resale value high.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product to protect my investment This is the 2nd kit for me; the other is on the 500 f4 lens. One of the reason, I chose black is to hopefully not stand out while shooting little league sports; we'll see if it pans out. The main reason was to protect my lens and it does the job nicely. It fits nicely and was easy to install on the lens. I just wish Lens Coat would orientate the seams so they are at the bottom when fitted on the lens, particularly the piece that goes on the hood. I'm happy with the purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't have cover for MF ring this one for 300 2.8 IS is not as good fitment as the 70-200mm and 400 IS II. 1. doesn't come with a piece covering the MF ring. there is no reason for this. 2. hood coverage is 10cm shiat on the rubber side. 3. a little short on the front piece 4. a little short on the mount piece. the major piece covering the switches is decent. I always have some fingernails so if you use that to move the switches you don't need to cut the plastic window. the tripod collar piece is long enough and need to cut a few inches which is good. also could be a bit wider. shipping from B&H is fast. I bought it to find out if the MF piece is missing like on the product picture turned out it does. all other lenscoat I hace comes with the MF piece. I believe older coat for older lenses doesn't come with the MF piece.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice, but hard to adjust switch settings I'm only giving 4 start just for the plastic cover over the switches - I end up mashing my fingers underneath instead of trying unsuccessfully to move them through the plastic. But other than that, I tip my hat to lens coat for providing both protection from scratches and a well thought out selection of patterns to help us bird photographers hide the big honking lenses from the wee birdies. It's good stuff. I highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Matches my camo outfit! I have recently become serious about wildlife photography and after reading how others have been able to get much closer to the critters when wearing camo, I decided to give it a try. I have to admit, it makes me feel like when I was a young tom-boy as I normally do not wear such masculine attire. But, if it means getting closer to my furry and feathered friends!!! Well, I decided to go full force and purchase the LensCoats for three of my super-telephoto lenses. I love them! They serve several purposes including camouflage, protection, insulation, and they are the perfect accessory to my new camo outfit! I feel that they were quite expensive for what you get, but sometimes you just have to splurge when you have an obsession. I thought of trying to make my own for a couple of other lenses, but I have a feeling it may not be as easy as it looks. I will keep you posted!
