    Snap Sights SS01 reviews

SS01 Underwater Camera w/ Flash is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Underwater Option This camera provides a real surprise in terms of the photo quality of underwater images. Coming preloaded with fast (800 ISO), relatively low grain color negative film, we used the cameras in snorkeling Hawaii and came back to enjoy the results. Scanned negatives were wonderful with fish, turtle and corals quite reminiscent of the images in scuba diver magazines after minor contrast/saturation tweaking. Easy to use, comes with a flash battery installed. No leaks detected in either camera to 5 ft depth. (being a novice snorkeler, didn't try anything deeper) Great things: Image quality really outstanding considering the low cost. Could spend much more and not get huge increase in photo quality. Reloadable. Not so great: Analog.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best deal for the money! This is a good two or three time use camera. I used it on three dives one was 115 feet and the camera held up well. After my last dive the camera started to get condensation inside the case. I did not open the case and remove the camera, that caused the flash to short out. It takes good pictures, however, I read a lot of reviews where people did not like the film that came with the camera so I changed it before I used it. I also found out why all of the people who said the film was bad did not get any pictures. The speed of the film is 800 and when you travel the 800 speed file will be processed when scaned at the airport. 400 or less will not be affected. Overall buy it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Camera surpassed expectations This camera worked quite well. I took it on four dives in Bermuda to a maximum depth of 50 feet and it didn't leak at all. It was pretty easy to use and the housing is pretty sturdy, so I didn't have to worry about it getting scratched or broken. I used the film that came in the camera, and although I'd read several reviews that suggested replacing the film first, all of my photos turned out. I used the flash each time. The photos were not great quality (a little blurry), but you could make out what's in each picture, and some turned out very clearly. Overall, it surpassed my expectations, and I would definitely recommend it as an inexpensive option with a good depth range and a flash!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Bang for the buck I bought this camera for my trip to Cancun. I know I would be snorkelling and did not want to spend the money on an expensive underwater camera. My only complaint is the cheap film that the camera comes loaded with. Get some Fuji or Kodak film rated 400ASA or higher and you will notice a marked difference in the quality of the photos. Fo the price and with good quality film you cannot find a better deal. Easy to use and can be handled roughly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Underwater Photos This camera takes better pictures underwater than the $350 digital camera I bought for that purpose......for $. And it's reusable. I've put as many as 12 rolls of film through one of these before it gave out. I usually have to toss them because I scratch the lens covers eventually. I've had them down to 130' and have only had one give out due to water pressure. After 12 rolls of film. I highly recommend them if you don't want to spend big bucks on a high quality digital.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good and bad i bought these for my grandchildren, twins at 10 y.o., and twins at 7 y.o. the 10 year olds could use them properly, the 7 year olds could not. the shutter is difficult to depress for the youngsters. the waterproof aspect of the camera works well. we did shots while kayaking in the ocean, swimming in the pool, and swimming in caverns. No problem there. and the camera is durable. The major issue is with re-loading the camera with a new role of film. the instructions are barely legible and it takes two people to pull it off w/o major frustration. in days of old, the take up spool had a slot in it and it was easy to re-load. this thing has one sprocket on the take-up roll and you need to be quick and have great dexterity to re-load. even the expert at B&H was frustrated with the process. we got it done, working together, but it was a pain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unbeatable for the price Used as a destroy-able camera in Central America. Took decent photos in a river and in 98% humidity. Replace the film this cam comes with with a good high speed film (ISO 400 and above)for best quality. Make sure the seal gasket and housing channel is clean when you close the case (I squashed a Moisture Muncher capsule behind the camera at the top to absorb humidity sealed in with the camera- Make sure if you do this that the housing is not stressed and the seal is tight!)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Simple to look at/difficult to load Purchased for grandkids to use in Hawaii snorkeling. Re-loading film is a pain. Can't do it quickly and the little buttons for winding the film are not easy to use on larger fingers. I was glad to give them a try but don't really think it's a product I would use again. Will be interesting to see what the pictures look like?????
