SLIK 618-909 Overview

The Slik SH-909 Professional 3-Way Pan Head is a heavy-duty pan/tilt head with a 26 lb payload and a large camera platform with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 screws. Its non-slip cork pad offers a tight, positive camera-to-tripod mounting solution. This pan head is designed to make it easy to position a heavy camera.

Complete with dual-axis bubble levels, this smooth 3-way head permits quick and easy establishment of vertical and horizontal positions. The ergonomically designed, extra-large, extra-long handles and knobs assure quick, responsive control of all panhead movement. The oversized space provided under the panhead camera platform allows you to comfortably reach the camera mounting screw to quickly secure the camera.

One of the handles broke off after just 6 months of normal use. Poor design and build quality.

Professional heavy duty tripod head

For the characteristics I was needing, this one fit the bill. I wanted something smooth, stable and capable of supporting spotting scopes and small refractor telescopes when needed in a 'grab and go' situation. I use it with Gitzo tripod legs. There's a lot to like here including the dual bubble levels, great build quality, fit and finish, large platform for mounting heavy gear, direct mounting of heavy equipment without a quick release plate, and relatively short handles. I bought one of these heads a year ago and just got another now. This kind of head is getting harder to find with each passing year. I use them every day. They are reasonably priced for this level of quality and utility; at least to me.

According to the manufacturer, the platform on the SLIK SH-909 Professional 3-Way Pan Head is 3.5x3.35 inches.
