The Matthews Back Light Stand is configured so that accurate positioning of your back light may be achieved. It may be used for either background illumination or back lighting the subject. The mounting pin at the top is a 5/8 to 1/4-20. After removing the riser the additional pin stored on the leg of the base is 5/8" that may be used to lower the mounting position directly at the base.

An extendable column allows for a wide range of heights and an interchangeable 5/8" pin positions the light almost directly on the floor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Invaluable in Studio I use these stands all the time. They allow me to sit the strobe at floor height. Great for creatively lighting backdrops

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stand, Especially Compact for Travel. I use this stand not only in studio work but also as a travel stand to hold a Speedlight when shooting drag racing. It is sturdy, especially with some weight or bag tossed on the base. I think it will support 20 pounds OK directly on top. But I would keep the weight well centered. Be aware that the info on the website for B&H and even Matthews says this is 52 tall. It is only 41 which I confirmed with Matthews and in their Catalog #43. I have ordered a Matthews Baby Extension to experiment with getting this a little taller. I believe that the Baby Extension will be a very useful piece of hardware for less than $40. Many potential uses. I also use a Photix umbrella flash holder to mount my Speedlite on this stand which addes a few more inches of height. The flash or anything else can be mounted at floor level with the leg pin. Very handy. A very good stand for the money if you need. Low and compact for travel. It also comes apart into 2 pieces for travel if needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little stand Fast to put together and collapses very well. This does the job, I have no complaints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clever Design, Solid Stand I love products with clever design and engineering. This is one of them. The stand collapses down into a small, easily transportable package, has a heavy, sold folding base, and has multiple mounting options.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sturdy, useful...but not perfect This stand turned out to be more than I bargained for. But it's an unconventional design and storage is a minor issue. The stand comes in two or three parts, depending on how you look at it. The upright 3-section post telescopes into itself like a normal lightstand. This can be unscrewed from the three feet of the stand. The actual feet rotate around a pivot so they can be stored all pointing the same direction, much like a C-stand. There is also a small attachment so you can mount a light literally at floor level, leaving the 3-section post out of the picture entirely. That's pretty cool! My only quibble is that there are all these pieces to keep track of. You could leave the 3-section post attached to the base, but then you have this right-angle chunk of metal to deal with. And you can screw the floor-light attachment into an extra hole in one of the legs, but then you've got that sticking out to catch on things. For now I'm storing it in two pieces, but it's' less than ideal. I suppose I could bungee them together! All that said, the thing is built like a tank, heavier than you'd think it would be (but in a good way, for stability), and I recommend it.
