Celestron AstroMaster 130 EQ overview

  • 1Description

Designed for near and deep-sky observation with a fast focal ratio for astrophotography/imaging, Celestron's AstroMaster 130EQ 130mm f/5 Reflector Telescope features a 650mm focal length and an oversized parabolic mirror that produce detailed images of the Moon, clear views of the planets, and the ability to resolve distant objects such as nebulae and galaxies.

The scope is outfitted with a 1.25 rack-and-pinion focuser and two eyepieces to get new users started: a 10mm that yields 65x power and a 20mm for a 32.5x magnification. The 20mm eyepiece integrates an erecting system to correct images horizontally and vertically to allow easy terrestrial use. An unmagnified red-dot finder is also included to help set-up, align and navigate easier.

The included manual equatorial mount features slow-motion control cables make it easy to track objects even when wearing gloves, while also minimizing vibrations caused by handling the mount with your hands; and clearly visible indicators on the Right Ascension and Declination axes. An adjustable-height aluminum tripod rounds out the rig with a tray for accessories such as eyepieces, filters, and lights.

    Celestron AstroMaster 130 EQ reviews

    AstroMaster 130EQ 130mm f/5 Reflector Telescope is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A decent start I tried to research things as best I could before making my first telescope purchase, and was led to believe that this was the best value. The unit is decent, by all means, however it is rather unstable. I have made several attempts to fix this, and it had improved (putting shims in the focuser) but it's still below what I expected. After stepping in to my local telescope store, I saw the SkyWatcher for not a whole lot more than what I paid for this, and it was clearly a more sturdy unit. I had found this information online, but there was enough supporting the AstroMaster that I decided to go with the cheaper model. The extra money is certainly worth it - get the SkyWatcher instead.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from pleasant surprise I use this as a rich-field scope, up to 50X. It can be pushed higher but the view suffers in comparison with any reasonable 80mm achromatic refractor. The mirror seems good, and wide field views with a Scopetronix 30mm (22X) were rewarding. The wild duck cluster was resolved at 36X with an Orion Epic ep. All told, I think the views are better than the Astroscan I bought - and returned - two years ago. I use this with a heavy duty alt-az mount, but I made use of the Eq. mount for my refractor. The mount is very sturdy, and fairly smooth in use. Half of the price of this scope (at least) is in the mount. Needs a better finder. Good buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best over all purchase! I am an amateur astronomer by hobby. This is the third telescope that I have owned, the first Newtonian. It has been an absolute joy to have on a clear night. The aperture is great, sturdy tripod, as well as the easy set up. As a tall guy at 6ft 5 inches, the tripod is actually tall enough that I do not have to stoop to look through the eyepiece which was a surprise. I wish it came with more than just two lenses, but that is a whole other purchase. Overall, I suggest if you want a telescope as beginner or novice wanting a great deal, this is the one for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great telescope! Overall, I am impressed with this scope. It is nearly 30lbs, and believe me the equatorial mount is not as hard as it seems to use. Instead of up-down left-right on an alt azimuth, it goes left-right but then the entire scope rotates. And don't be scared of a polar alignment I was terrified at first until I experimented with it. I put my iphone in accessory tray and point it the direction of north, and basically eyeball it. It's excellent for visual astronomy but long exposures would need to be very accurate polar alignments. Also, the finder scope is kinda trash. It doesn't work very well, unless you position your head at the back of the tube and align the cirles after sighting in the mount. It's tricky to do, but will work if you experiment with it. Overall, excellent scope, easy to assemble, and introduces huge optics for a very good price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, great, great...I recommend it I use this telescope on a nightly basis. I am an amateur, but absolutely love this product. If there are any people out there that want a good telescope with a great price, this is the telescope you need. The only problem with this telescope is that the aim doesn't work perfectly, but that may be because I don't have even ground. Other than that I love this product, and I recommend it to anyone!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Muy bueno Es muy buen Telescopio! pero personalmente el acabado no me gusta! tiene muchas piezas plsticas, y el trpode no es muy estable. Me gusta mas los Orion y los Meade
