Savage 40-12 Overview

  • 1Description

Photograph people and products against a smooth, uncluttered background with this 107" x 36' roll of #40 Mint Green Widetone Seamless Background Paper from Savage. To facilitate even lighting, the surface of the paper is non-reflective and has a fine-tooth finish. In addition to photography, the paper may be used for events, decorations, banners, and more.

The paper density is 100 pounds, or 145 gsm, an easy-to-handle resilient thickness of 7.6 mil, and comes wound on a core with a 2.125" interior diameter. A plastic sleeve protects the roll in transit and can be saved to provide continued protection when the paper is not in use. The paper should be stored vertically to reduce the possibility of warping and other damage. Photographers often use clamps to secure the paper to a backdrop stand as well as tape to secure the paper to the floor if rolled out for full-body shots. The paper is acid-free and 100% recyclable.

Due to the manufacturing process, it's not uncommon for sizes to fluctuate slightly. In most cases the amount of fluctuation won't matter.

Savage 40-12 Reviews

Widetone Seamless Background Paper (#40 Mint Green, 107" x 36') is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 2034.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Big Roll of White Paper As far as big white rolls of paper go. This one meets all of my criteria in flying colors (except not colors cause it's white) Some points that make this produce so awesome... 1.) It is big 2.) It is white 3.) It is paper I mean seriously how much more could one ask for? I use it for a background sweep for my fashion photography but... I am inclined to suggest that it would work equally well for making: - Life-size people paper chains, - Paper airplanes you could ride, - Guinness Book of world records size origami frogs. Oh and shipping costs were pretty good too

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's White Heavy paper. Get it lit right and it's white as white can be. Roll is big, not portable really. Put a piece of plexiglass down, and you get a nice reflection too. Great for high key portraits. What I don't like is that the paper is so heavy that when I started to roll it out, it just pulled a bunch off the roll. You need to clamp it at the top or half the roll will pull out. Keep the shipping tube and you have a decent storage container, but it's still pretty big. I have one of the Impact backdrop stands, not expensive, and this paper makes the unit kind of shaky. I will eventually get a heavier duty stand for the paper rolls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice heavy paper Lays flat and is beautiful.  This color is close to caucasian skin tone, so it is good if you want a monocromatic color scheme.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good heavy paper, very well packaged I bought this paper for large product photography. I've never used a paper this wide, before so I was concerned it would wrinkle or tear easily. The best thing about this paper is it is heavy (thick) and durable. It comes packaged in a cardboard roll and covered in a plastic bag. If you're unfamiliar with using roll paper, especially white paper, be ready for it to get dirty easily and expect to tear off the used portion and throw it away. If you're in a cleaner environment you may wish to use a white muslin background for repeatability and not having to 'consume' it like the paper. This is a very bright white, good paper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked very well As advertised (i.e. it's white). This paper is substantially thick to live up to people walking all over it. Difficult to handle alone once it's on the background pole; it unrolls quickly and seems like it's heavy enough to cause creases in itself if left to unroll at its own pace. It re-rolls pretty well, although it did track a little to one side, making it difficult to put back in the heavy cardboard tube it shipped in. It did get dirty quick, of course. Haven't yet tried to wipe it down, so I can't speak to that. Honestly, my biggest gripe is that it arrived with a 2-foot-long rip in the middle of the leading edge...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flimsy Shipping Carton Same quality seamless as ever but now delivers in flimsy square corrugated box that bends in half in transit. Hopefully B&H will start using the heavy wall shipping tubes again. They don't even include plastic wrap around the roll any more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Inside I am a photo enthusiast, not a pro, so my experience is limited. But I have been very pleased with the price and quality of these Savage background paper rolls. The only slight negative: They used to ship these in nice, sturdy cardboard tubes. Those tubes made very nice, durable, places to store the rolls when not in use. Being an amateur, I do not have dedicated space for my studio so have to put these backgrounds up and down. The last 2 rolls I purchased, however, were shipped in lighter weight boxes which I do not believe will hold up very well over the long term for storage. I'd rather have the cardboard tube!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As It Should Be! I use this backdrop in my home studio to shoot my band's promo pictures. The size is perfect for a five piece band. I don't have to worry about anyone lingering outside the backdrop edges. It is very durable. Other than a couple dings here there from inevitable horsing around (easily edited out) it has thoroughly impressed me. Also, the length of the backdrop is very convenient when incorporating large props in my photographs. My only caution to the buyer is to think about where you are going to store this if it is not your primary backdrop. Without tall ceilings or a large cubby hole , you're going to have an interesting time finding a place for this bad boy!
