    Smith-Victor KT1000U reviews

KT1000U 2-Light 1000 Watt Intermediate Thrifty Umbrella Kit is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as promised I bought this kit to shoot photos for my church's directory. It is light duty but for my application it is all I need at a reasonable price. If this was going to get more frequent use I would have purchased something sturdier but for this project it is 100% meeting my needs. I found that if I tighten the head sufficiently the reflector/umbrella does not droop even after several hours of use. So far no problems with the bulbs that came with the kit but I did buy extras just in case. I was skeptical about the 500 W bulbs because with a previous Smith Victor set that I had purchased used, 500 W bulbs melted the plastic sockets. No problem with this set, however.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Set-Up with Minor Flaws This is a great kit as you get umbrellas, stands, and the light hardware, which are pretty good. However, the swivel joint for the lights doesn't clamp to the lights well or tighten securely. Plus, included are 3200K lamps. It would be great if they included 4800K lamps instead so you're shooting with a cool daylight rather than a warm incandescent light. Be prepared to spend another $18 or so if you want daylight lamps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value Kit with poor Lamp adjustment This S-V Kit is pretty hard to beat. The stands are well made and easy to use. The Reflectors and Umbrellas are fine. However, the control for adjusting the relector's angle is somewhere between annoying and terrible. It's quality material but a poor ball/friction design. There is no half way with the ball. If you haven't positioned it properly and it starts to slip, when you try to adjust it, you will find you are starting over because when you lossen the clamp from the ball, all previous settings are lost and you are starting over. It's not a good thing especially if the equipment gets hot. I personally am redesigning this socket to suit myself. My design is a garage fix and can be done with hand tools like a hack saw and an electric drill. S-V has been in business a long time and makes decent stuff for cheap. If you want something better, throw more money at it. I recommend it, as it is, IF you understand what you are buying. I also own the barn doors. You might want to take a look at that review also.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Above expectations. Being an amateur doesn't give much to compare to, but the lights made me be aware of how much of a difference they made and must factor in. I'm happy with the product and glad I chose to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great hot lights for the price The only problem I had was the ball joint that attaches to the stand doesnt get quite tight enough to hold the weight of the umbrella. But a rubber band around the end of the umbrella to the knob works great. Really a great deal for the price.
