The Visual Echos FX2 Better Beamer Flash Extender will help increase the reach of the flash and increases the flash output by about 2 to 3 f/stops. It focuses and concentrates the output of the flash into a narrow beam via the fresnel panel that gets positioned in front of the flash. This allows shooting at greater distances and shooting with smaller apertures.

The Better Beamer is designed to be used with lenses 300mm and longer, and its rugged, injection-molded plastic side supports are attached to the flash head by a sturdy elastic "hook-and-loop" band. The rigid supports hold the Fresnel screen in place in both horizontal and vertical formats.

The FX2 version will fit larger flash heads, e.g. Canon 540EZ, 550EX, Nikon SB-25 and SB-26, Sigma EF 500 series, Minolta 5600. The measurement between the two attachment flaps is 1 3/4".

Excellent for wildlife and birding photography, where long-distance fill-flash is often required, especially with a bright sunlight background. The use of fill flash opens up the shadows without the appearance that a flash was used.
When used with TTL flash metering, exposure is automatically set by the camera and flash, and no special compensation is required.
Reduces the drain on battery power by two-thirds.

    FX2 Better Beamer for Canon 550EX, Nikon SB-25 & 26, Sigma EF500 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works really well but kind of flimsy I'm using this for fill flash, while photographing birds. It seems like the lens could be made our of stiffer plastic, but it is maybe made flexible and less likely to brake. It only takes about 30 second to assemble which is really nice. It is very light weight, and when you add the flash and a heavy lens it does not add a significant amount. I would recommend this to other photographers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It does the job in a lightweight package I have owned 4 or 5 of these over the years since they were first introduced. The downfall of them is usually that the Velcro strips on at the ends of the beamer to hold the Fresnel screen in place fall off. These products do what they are supposed to do, but don't look at them as long term investments. If you need them, you need them and they are worth the money. When the better beamers first came out they were supplied with a broad elastic band that held them to the flash unit. Nowadays they come with Velcro to wrap around the flash unit with even more Velcro to attach to the flash unit to catch that Velcro (which often falls off). I personally hate them. To me the original method with the elastic bands was far superior. The elastic band held the Better Beamer more securely to the flash unit and was quicker to attach. Fortunately I still have one functional elastic band from one of my previous Better Beamers that I can use, but only one. I don't know what I would do if it becomes lost or damaged. They really should supply both the elastic band and the Velcro with the unit, or at least offer the elastic band as an accessory. For that reason I'm knocking 2 stars off a 5 rating. It's not often that a superior product has been made worse over the years, but this one has.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best flash tool I've found for wildlife I made myself a DIY version of the Better Beamer, which I used for a couple of years before finally breaking down and buying this one. There really was no comparison - the actual Beamer is much better engineered. It does a very efficient job of channeling the flash output with long telephoto lenses and is invaluable for adding the extra flick of light. It seems well built, is easy to setup and use - my only gripe is that I feel it's somewhat over-priced for a few pieces of plastic. But it works, so it's worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Flash Extender I purchased this flash extender for use with my Canon EF 100-400mm f4.0/5.6 L USM telephoto zoom lens. I use it primarily for wildlife/animal photography. This accessory does it's job and add a small amount of additional light for shooting animals in low light situations. The construction is flimsy but folds down nicely to carry in your bag/vest.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The first Beamer The Beamer works fine. The cost and results are what I wanted for my Canon 7D / Canon 100-400 lens. It makes very easy to take it out on my bag set up and tear down all in a minute or two. The Beamer, Canon 550EX and the lens reach into 30' into branches and difficult areas. Great for birds, foliage, etc. Buy one and enjoy it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better Beaammer All around a good product and a must have for the type of shooting I do ( Birds and most importantly Warblers) They only drawback is that being used in windy or other harsh conditions it doesn't last forever -this is my 3rd in as many years. The nature of the beast.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Performs as advertised Fit my flash perfectly. It is a little over-priced but not so much that I feel the need to build one myself as others have done. More power to em. If your gonna shoot birds in all situations, you will need this. 4 stars cuz of the price only.
